Sprinting to the opposite end of the lot, I push hard into the ground to sprint back to the base before repeating this for each of the lines in the lot. Fuck, I hate conditioning. Steven is clapping as he yells, encouraging me to keep pushing, as if I could do any more on the warmer-than-average, low seventies day. Once I finish this rep, I'm barely able to push my hair back out of my face before Steven calls out, "Again!"

Trying to hide the eye roll, I take off again from the baseline and push through the burning in my legs and lungs. I've gotta do more conditioning in the offseason, not just being a psycho with the weights. It's been at least a month now since I did any major cardio. As I'm about halfway through this rep, a pit in my stomach starts to grow. Shit. Trying to push through it, I burp a little and know I've gotta reel it in a bit.

My pace slows a little as I scope out the nearest trash can. Steven keeps yelling at me to push through it. He hasn't quite picked up on the issue. Once he catches on to my new course, he shuts up. Getting to the trash can, I push my hair back as I let out what little contents I have in my stomach.

As I'm able to stand back up straight, I spit a couple of times trying to clear everything out as I hear a couple of footsteps approaching. "Good?"

"Yeah, what next?"

Steven raises an eyebrow as if trying to confirm I'm serious before nodding, "Alright. Four sets of twenty, eight-count burpees."

"I shouldn't have asked," I joke before stepping back into the lot to continue the workout. After about seven, I feel a flare in my shoulder. Ever since I was cleared, it still flares up from time to time, usually passes pretty quickly. Pushing through it, I grimace a little when I hit thirteen before feeling my stomach churn again at about seventeen. Pushing through the set of twenty, I turn again, trying to make sure I hit the trash if I do throw up again.

"Alright, we're done conditioning for the day," Steven states as I'm trying not to puke again. Holding it in this time, it passes, and I'm able to nod. "Let's head in, catch a breather, and if you want to do some strength training, we can pick back up in fifteen."

"Sounds good," I reply, following him back into the gym. "Thanks," I comment quickly as he holds the door for me. Grabbing my water, I take a seat on one of the benches before pulling the hair-tie out of my hair. Leaning my elbows on my knees, I rest my head on my hand and take a minute to just chill.

"Doing okay?" Christian asks, pulling my attention back up as I watch him grab his water. Nodding quickly, I start pulling my hair back up.

"Yeah," I confirm, "Might have puked outside, but I also haven't done any conditioning in well over a month."

Scoffing with a small shake of his head, "Take it easy if you need. No need to burn yourself out in the first workout back." I refrain from rolling my eyes as I give him a quick nod. "I love you."

"I love you too." He worries too much.

After my quick break wraps up, I meet back up with Steven. We start with some stretching before heading into more weight training. Ignoring the dull pain in my shoulder, I push through it as I re-rack everything before moving on to some planks to push-ups.

After a couple of reps, it's hard to hold the grimace from my face. "Take it easy, JJ, no need to force anything right now."

"Bro, can you fuck off?" I ask, blowing a gusty breath out as I do, continuing on with my workout. Catching his scoff, I pop my head up, "I don't need you being a helicopter husband right now."

"You also don't need to blow your shoulder out again in your first full workout back," He snaps back at my comment. Putting my head back down, I push through a few more reps to finish my set, ignoring both the protest from my husband and my shoulder.
