Leaning my hips into my hands, I stretch out my lower back as I watch Christian retrieve our luggage. Nothing like nearly 26 hours of straight traveling to stiffen you up. Handing me the handle to my suitcase, Christian takes the opportunity with his now free hand to wrap it around my waist briefly as he kisses the top of my head. "You're going to be hot," He mentions, referring to my hoodie, technically his, and my sweat pants.
"You say that like you don't already think I am," I tease, grinning at my husband while he rolls his eyes with a chuckle, "I've got a sports bra and shorts on, I'll be okay."
"Alright," Christian smiles, taking my hand in his as we start to deboard the plane. "And for the record, I do absolutely think you're hot." Scoffing, I chuckle with a small shake of my head.
After our welcome dinner, we're taken back to our villa in a golf cart along the beach. The warm air a stark but welcome contrast to the snow we had left back in Wisconsin. The fresh air mixed with the soft ocean breeze is more peaceful than I could have ever imagined after the last couple of months. I'll never get used to these breathtaking places I somehow get to experience on a near-annual basis. How could anyone? The clear sparkling blue of the Indian Ocean, broken only by the warm orange and yellows of the freshly sunset sky on the horizon, is more stunning than practically anything I've ever seen before. This is unreal, especially compared to where we were just a week ago in a dusty courtroom.
"Would it be okay to let us off here?" Christian asks, pulling my attention to him as he speaks to our driver.
"Of course," he replies, pulling off to the side of the path. "Your villa is right up those steps," he points out to the cobblestone steps off the beach about 50 yards away that lead up to the last villa on the corner of the island. It's been a few minutes since we passed the last villa, the glimpse of seclusion is exciting after the chaos we've just gotten through.
Pulling out some cash, Christian tips our driver before taking my hand and leading our way towards the shoreline. The waves towards the shore seem to start glowing as they roll in. The vibrancy of the colors between the ocean and the sky is truly indescribable. Never in a million years could I have asked for a more perfect evening. Somehow, it feels like I've been lucky enough to have a few in these past few years.
"Thank you," I blurt out, breaking the soothing sounds surrounding us as we make it to the shoreline.
Looking at me, brow furrowed, Christian asks, "For what?"
"For this," I say, gesturing to the general area around us. "For everything."
"I'm not sure I can take the credit for this," He laughs, "I think we just got lucky with the timing."
Chuckling to myself, I shake my head, "I meant for making all of this happen. I wasn't much help in planning this trip with how unplugged I've wanted to be, but I couldn't have thought of anything more perfect than this."
Christian smiles, pulling my hand gently towards him. He wraps my arm around his waist as he holds mine so he can kiss me. Starting gently at first, he lets go of my hand and cradles my jaw instead. He holds me to him, not wanting to break this moment. I'd be damned to say I had any intention of letting it end.
After a few more moments, Christian pulls away first, "I did have a travel agent book most of it."
Laughing, I shake my head before kissing him once more.
"Want to check out the villa?" Christian asks, his voice low and quiet, bringing a small smirk to my face. Nodding gently, I let him lead the way up to the cobblestone steps to our home for the next week or two.
