The Peninsula of Peridot

We reached the fire.

It was a smaller chamber, hidden away in the vastness of the dark abyss behind us, but still so large that it could easily fit half of Manos' luxurious throne room.

It was empty and dark- quite the surprise...

I felt like my ears had adjusted to a new wave of sound from the lack of noise. The loudest and most startling burst of noise had come from the walls of the maze exploding and disintegrating into cosmic dust.

But suddenly, there was a new sound.

And it wasn't completely unrecognisable.

"Theia."

Malreus and I stopped dead in our tracks. I felt my breath hitch in my throat and the blood rush up to my head. The hairs on my arms and at the back of my neck stood up with a strange new emotion. I felt an unknown sensation, but the voice was definitely not unfamiliar. Oh, no... I knew it now.

And now, more importantly, I knew who it belonged to.

I turned slightly, so my eyes could meet his.

They were black. I felt a gulp slide down my throat, but I hoped to the gods that I didn't look the way I that felt.

"Erebus." I said softly and stepped to the side, slightly blocking the side of Malreus. I immediately regretted bringing him along. Not that I had much of a choice. He was determined and undeniably stubborn. It's too bad I couldn't have tricked him and left him outside, but Malreus was far too intelligent for that and I was frankly for too bad at tricks. That was more my brothers' department.

The man walked out from the shadows and I noticed the age that showed on his face. He didn't look particularly old- much the same age as Nyx now, but his eyes and the creased around them seemed to display a sense of perception. A sense I assumed he'd carefully use to his advantage over the many years in solitude.

Malreus was deathly quiet as he stepped forward and came to stand directly behind me, keeping his eye on Erebus across the room. He was ready, if anything were to... happen.

"It is pleasant to meet with you again." He said with a dry tone, which hid few- or really, no emotion.

"Is it?" I asked, my voice still soft. I felt like I was whispering, but he heard me perfectly.

"Indeed." He stepped closer and we automatically took a step back. Erebus' eyes darted down to my feet and then back up to my eyes. He didn't react, but merely asked; "Troubled?"

I tried my hardest to present a confident posture. I had nothing to hide.

Malreus had the dagger- not me. I was coming in with clean hands and so long as I remembered that, I could present myself with clear intentions.
