Tom moved me from his chest, holding my shoulders and looking into my eyes, his were rimmed red and he looked so shocked.
His normally bright blond hair was a dark smear across his forehead, wet and darkened from the rain.
I could see his mouth moving, he was talking, but I couldn't hear him, all I could hear was my own heartbeat in my ears.
I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself down, looking into Tom's bright green eyes helped, I was safe, Tom was here, I was going to be ok.
"How did you find me?" I managed to ask when my heart rate slowed enough to hear him.
He took a deep breath himself. "All I got from your phone call was the road name and I could hear you panicking, I didn't know what had happened but I rushed here in a cab. I found my car and called the cops straight away, I heard shots but never thought they could be aimed at you, fuck." He dragged his hand through his hair, stressed. "I don't know how to explain it, I had this weird feeling that you were in here, and I just kept going, like I needed to keep moving forward and I'd find you." He shook his head, unable to explain himself properly. "I saw you and this dude, I could hear things he was saying but nothing was making sense, I didn't know what to do, then he pulled out the knife." His eyes turned to pure rage as he looked over at Malik on the floor.
"My grandpa." He whispered, ashamed.
"What?!" He whipped his head back around to me.
I nodded and let more tears fall down my face. "He-he-" I couldn't tell him.
How could I tell him my grandfather thought I was a witch that can talk to dead people, and I was almost believing it myself?
Before Tom could question me, I saw movement in my peripheral vision and turned quickly to see Lindsay walking through the tree-line towards us.
Her long blonde and blue hair not wet at all, not like my own and Tom's.
I should have paid more attention to her. I should have noticed these things.
Before I could stop to think, if she was a ghost, to Tom I'd be talking to myself, I gathered what little strength I had left and lunged to my feet, it took Tom a second longer to catch up and he stood too.
I started towards Lindsay, rage pulsing through my body.
"Where the FUCK did you go? You got me into this shit, you dragged me back into this clearing to watch my parents die again, giving Malik enough time to find me and then you just up and leave when he's got me tied to a tree?" I shouted at her, getting in her face.
"I'm sorry Lily! I knew we needed help, I went and got Tom. That's how he could find you!" She looked worried and as panicked as I felt, she glanced round me at Tom.
I was too afraid to look at him.
As soon as she told me she'd gone and found Tom, lead him here, the fight fell out of me and I almost collapsed again.
Lindsay grabbed my elbow and kept me up.
"You could have said that." I mumbled, disgruntled.
