Faye quickly responded with a curt laugh, before clearing her throat and trying to think of a good way to answer his question. His definition of a life mate reminded her more and more of how Jacob felt for Renesmee in the last of the Twilight Series. However, in the real world, the one she lived in, she didn't know if that kind of powerful kind of love existed. Sure, her parents were still married, but they didn't show the kind of emotions towards one another like she'd read in her books.

Plus, her parents were divorce lawyers, they made their money ending marriages in which one partner no longer loves the other. It was kind of heartbreaking to know her parents loved their jobs ruining what was supposed to be a sacred institutions.

"I would like to think there is that kind of love, but I honestly don't think there is. I think, on earth, you can love everyone you meet. You can even love someone enough to marry them, have children, etc. But back home, there's too many temptations leading people down different paths. Some people marry for what they think is love, others do it for money or the fear of being alone."

It was kind of sad actually, that more than often now-a-days, you would find more dissolutions of marriages than actually engagement and wedding announcements in the papers. Faye, a true romantic, used to read those two sections every Sunday, dreaming of how hers would look. She'd spend hours daydreaming of her husband and how they'd meet and date and fall in love, how he'd propose and then how amazing the wedding would be. Now, she just wished some guy would pay her some attention.

"I have hope I suppose, my sister said she went met her husband, she knew it was true love. I believed her until, well, a few days before the wedding she confided in me she cheated on him shortly after he proposed. She was worried about not being attractive or anymore or something and went and slept with some guy at this bar. I guess I thought it was last 'bang' before saying the big 'I Do's'."

Faye cocked her head to the side and found Tyron was deep in thought about the situation. As much as she wanted to tell him something like true love on earth existed, she just wasn't sure it did. She wasn't even sure her parents actually loved each other, they were just good at working together. They were the best divorce lawyers in the state.

"I have another question," she asked, not really caring if he groaned again or not. "Is it possible for one person to love another, but that person doesn't feel the same in return?"

Tyron looked down at Faye, "I don't think I follow."

"I mean, your life mate, which we would call a soul mate by the way...anyway, does that person instantly feel the same way about you?"

Faye gazed at Tyron, watching his eyes narrow momentarily as he thought about her question.

"Do you mean, can Lita think I'm her life mate, but I don't think I'm hers?"

Faye simply nodded her head in response.

"No, well, I guess she could think that, but I'm not her life mate and she's not mine. Your life mate is that one other person meant exactly just for you. It goes both ways, you both feel it and know. It doesn't take time to fall in love, it happens instantly. My Malanai says it's so powerful and overwhelming, you don't have time to think or react, it just takes over."

"Wow, that would be amazing. It'd take a lot of the guess work out of the whole love and dating and marriage thing."

"Faye, it's not that simple. I make it sound that way, but it's not. Each one of us has a life mate, but you and your life mate kind of need to be at that right point in your lives to find each other. It's not like love at first sight. You could know your life mate for years, but until you're both ready to be there, at that point to have a life mate, it'll just happen. It's really hard to explain given I haven't met mine yet. I don't know, I guess it's just an elf thing."

Faye felt her heart drop slightly, even if the thought was rather ridiculous, she had to ask, "So, I take it that means you couldn't love me?"
