Maya's cottage was located on the outskirts of the village, away from the hustle of the market place and nestled within a wooded grove. No-one would see them sneak through the night to his childhood home.
Faye knocked at the door as Ty climbed the few steps onto the porch, an unconscious Moira slumped in his arms. Maya was quick to answer the door, wrapped tightly in her night gown. "What the...Faye?"
Ty pushed forward, "Malanai, we need to come in."
Maya quickly stepped aside, hurrying them into the safety of the cottage and closing the door tightly behind them. She placed her hand against the wood, sealing it shut with her essence - nobody would be getting in or out but them. "Tyron, where have you been!?"
He ignored her worried stares and carried Moira through to his old room. Thankfully, the bed was always ready made, a habit his malanai couldn't shake, and he placed her gently onto the soft bedding.
"Tyron Thorn, you will answer me." Maya stormed into the room, her eyes trained firmly on her son. "You disappear for over a week with no word, I had to call Artemis to ask for a Sighting - only to have him tell me there was no need, that he'd sent you away...why would he do that? What business did he have with you?"
He tucked a blanket over the young girl. "You're worrying for nothing. I had to take Faye away, that's all."
"Where did you go?"
Tyron straightened. "Finn Falls."
The mix of anger and horror dawned over her face, a second before her hand snapped out in front of her, clasping into Tyron's shirt and dragging him toward her. "You stupid boy! You know how dangerous that place is, Tyron, why would you go there? Why would you endanger yourself like that?!"
He opened his mouth to answer, but Faye appeared in the doorway, catching Maya's attention fast. She dropped her hold on Ty and instead fisted her hands at her sides. "You...you're the reason my Tyron is putting himself in harms way. Do you even realise what you're doing to him? Do you even care. Humans...they're all the same; selfish creatures with no regard for anyone else."
"Malanai, no," Placing his hands into her shoulders, "It's a long story and I promise to tell you everything in the morning, but we're all exhausted and -"
"And who is she?" Maya didn't wait for her son to finish; she pointed to Moiras sleeping form, a deep frown still etched into her brows. "Why is she with you?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose, "Malanai, please not tonight..."
"And why," Maya grounded out, "Does she have elf ears?"
Ty looked at Faye and at her ears - her perfectly rounded, human ears. What in Siofra was his mother looking at? His gaze suddenly fell to the moon pendant hanging around her neck. Maybe that was what it did to hide her from sight; make her like everyone else.
He shook his head. "It's the necklace, Luna gave it to her to hide her. And Moira is a friend, she's helping protect Faye."
"Someone else putting their life on the line for her? How remarkable."
"Malanai..."
"Oh, fine!" She released a deep sigh. "I will leave you tonight, but come the morning I want to know every little detail, understand? You can both sleep in the living room, there's spare blankets and pillows in the cupboard."
