"I hate fairies so much," Moira grumbled, tugging Faye along forcefully. "My Grandmother told me that they used to pester my Father relentlessly, especially when my Malanai was pregnant with me. They kept threatening to steal me away in the night."
Tyron rolled his eyes but followed behind them closely, his senses on high alert, listening for something that Moira had picked up way before he had. Even now he still couldn't sense any fairy presence.
"I can't hear anything," Ty slowed his pace. "We're running through this damn forest like a bunch of-"
Moira spun around, her staff braced in her hands. "Duck!"
The girl moved faster than Ty could keep up with –she made him incredibly dizzy when he tried- and her staff moved even faster. With a twist of her wrist, Moira swung (forcing Ty to duck down further) and caught at something just above his head.
A small scream rang through his head a moment before a bright red ball hit the ground to his right. It didn't move again.
"Damn stupid fairies!" Moira cursed, flipping the staff in her hand. She looked up into Ty's eyes and smiled, "I think your senses must be down."
"My senses are not down," He snapped, narrowing his eyes. "I was too busy focusing on-"
"Ow, ow -Ty!"
He let out an exasperated sigh, "What is it with you two and cutting me off before I –Oh, for gods sake!"
Perched on Faye's shoulder was a grinning, orange fairy. It's dark eyes were latched onto the stone hanging from her neck, growing wider as it's interest grew. "Preeeetttyyy stooooone," It hissed, reaching one clawed hand out to grip at the silver chain. "Miiiiiine."
Tyron quickly moved to stand in front of his frightened human, "Hey, keep your hands to yourself, you little-"
The moment it made contact, the stone lit up brightly, emitting a beautiful light blue glow.
"Ty...what's happening?" Faye asked, her voice trembling.
The light only attracted the fairy more, it's glow acting like a magnet.
Tyron took a hold of Faye's arm gently, "Don't move, Katinar."
Despite the situation, Moira moved up to his side and sighed dreamily, "My Father called my Malanai that..."
The next thing she did had Tyron holding his breath.
Her slim fingers moved up and captured his arm in her hold, hugging it tightly and resting her head against the side of his shoulder. "She'll be fine," She breathed, closing her eyes. "The stone is working its magic."
He swallowed, "It is?"
Faye stared at his in disbelief, "Tyron! Help me!"
He looked from Moira to Faye, "She said that the-"
"I don't care...help me!"
Moira hugged his arm tighter, "You're so snugly, Tyron."
"Uh...hello! I'm still here, you know? Let go of him and get this thing off of me!"
"The stone will kill it," Moira said, waving a dismissive hand.
None of them were taking much notice of the small, orange fairy on Faye's shoulder anymore and that didn't change as it fell to the floor either, it's glow diminished.
Moira was the one to point it out, "See," She pointed to the floor. "Nothing to worry about."
Stepping over the creature, Faye took a hold of his other arm. "What if it didn't work?! It would have stolen my necklace and slit my throat quicker than you two would have cared!"
He bowed his head down in Faye's direction, "You're not hurt though, are you?"
"No thanks to you!"
"Faye..."
"I think we should get out of here," With a sad sigh, Moira dropped her hold on Ty's arm. She had a certain warmth that his body mourned; it was different from Faye's somehow, but he couldn't quite put his finger on how.
"We've just killed two fairies. There are bound to be more to come."
