"Dad pwede bang ikaw ang magkabit ng mga ribbons and medals ko, please?" I hopefully asked my Dad while I'm at his office.
Sinama niya ako rito dahil busy pa si Mommy sa kompanya.
"Tell your mom to do that, I'll be at your Ate Lyra's recognition day," he said without looking at me and continued checking his documents in his table. I pouted at him but he never looks back.
It's alright Yrra, it's for your big sister.
I roam around his office when one box caught my attention. The box is black with the redlining in it. What was that?
Before I could open the box, Dad shouted my name telling me that I shouldn't touch any things here in his office. So, I didn't. But I can feel something about that box.
My Mom fetched me at the office and didn't stay long and we decided to go home. Kinukulit ko s'ya para s'ya ang pumunta sa recognition day ko. I'm grade 6 and I excel in school, I am the quiz bee queen despite of my grade level and age. We are enrolled in different schools so that we can make our own names without competing with each other.
No difference when we're at home, though.
"Sweetie, I'll be at Kyrro's recognition day and when he's done maybe I'll go with you," pagod niyang sinabi at dumiretsong kwarto nila ni Daddy.
She didn't even gave me a chance to insist.
Hindi ko na naitago ang panlulumo sa sinabi niya. At my age, I know there's a gap between us. That no matter how I try to reach, it gotten more declined and longer.
"Mom, what about me?" teary-eyed kong tanong kay Mommy sa pagitan ng pinto nila. All I heard was all rustling inside their room. I turned my back on their door sadly and saw my Yaya standing near my door. The looks in her eyes said pity. I smiled on her and run to her.
The pity is the least thing that I don't want to see to everyone's eyes when they're looking at me.
Para akong itinatakwil kapag gano'n.
"Yaya can you come with me in my graduation day?" I asked happily and she nodded and her lips stretch for a warm smile.
"Oo naman, baby Yrra." And pinched my cheeks.
At an early age, I already experience the rejections and disappointments from my family. They never gave attention to my queries and all.
Graduation day comes like air. And I'm still hoping they'll come.
"Yaya they'll come right?" She looked away. My Yaya just brush my hair and smiled to me.
I unconsciously stares at the gate, hoping and praying that someone will show up.
Kahit ikaw lang Mommy.
"I'll be with you Yrra."
Even her, she didn't hope that my parents will come.
"Maybe we can enjoy this day Yaya," I said, fighting the lump in my throat and act that I am okay.
