Kate watched you hide behind the woman who was considered your guardian. They had warned her that you would be closed off and quite scared of a lot of things so she had to be careful of the things that she would do around you.
They opened the door for you and you sat on the opposite side of Kate.
"Hi, I'm Kate. What's your name?"
Kate asked, trying to be friendly to you.
You stay quiet for the longest time, making her think that you hadn't heard her.
"My name is Kate, what's yours?"

You stammer out, making Kate frown.
"Are you okay?"
You nod slowly, unsure of how you were supposed to act around her. Kate gives you a small smile and hand you her left earbud.
"Music always calms me down. Do you want to listen to it with me?"
You looked down at the offered earbud and then back to Kate.
"It's okay. I want you to listen to music with me but if you don't then that's okay too."
You take the headphone and put it in the correct ear. As you hear the soothing piano music, you relax a little. You gave her a grateful smile as you weren't as tense before.

It was quite difficult for you to go from one abusive family to one that clearly loved you. You felt bad that you made it difficult for everyone as to how they acted but they never complained. Simply took their time to get you to trust them or make sure that you knew what you were doing. was okay.
Kate was the one that made things a little easier on you. She would always be there for you. Making sure that you were never alone or had a quiet moment to let you think about what you had gone through. You thought she would get annoyed or even worse that you would get annoyed of her but she stuck around. Taking care of you when you had trouble in school and helping you with whatever you needed.

You had been saving up for the past year to get Kate a necklace that she had always wanted. Your parents told you that there was no reason for you to do that as they could just buy it for you but you refused, telling them that you wanted to pay for it with your own money that you had earned from helping around the house.
"You got me a present, (y/n). You didn't have to do that. I'm happy with the cake that you got me."
"Just open it, Kate."
Kate rolls her eyes and opens up the box to find a necklace with a small camera pendant.
"It's beautiful."
She pulled it out of the box and put it on.
"I love it. Thank you so much."
"I know it's not much but it's a little reminder so you won't forget me when you win your first award."
Kate hugs you tightly.
"Like I could ever forget your annoying ass."

"Mom? Dad?"
The two of them turned to face you as you called for them. It had been almost a year since you had started calling them like that and they still couldn't smile every time you used those names.
"Yes, sweetheart? Is everything okay?"
You nod shyly and take a seat in front of them, unable to actually sit still as you tried to tell them what you wanted to do.
"I uh, yes. Everything is fine. I just hope that the two of you would give me a second of your time."
"(y/n), you know that we always have time for you. What is it?"
You sigh and start playing with your fingers, a nervous habit that you had picked up from Kate but never realized. Both Goldie and Bill, smile when they see it. They both reach over to take your hand, hoping it would comfort you.
"I've thinking and I think I want to follow in your footsteps. I'm thinking of auditioning for a movie."
You weren't expecting them to actually stand up and give you a tight hug in celebration of what you wanted to do.
"You're okay with that?"
"Of course! We always told you that we'll support you no matter what and if you say that you want to audition for a movie then we'll do our best to help you."
"...I kind of asked for Kate's help already. I just wanted to make sure that the two of you would be okay with it."
"Sweetheart, we love you and we'll support you in anything you do."
You give them a wide smile and leaned in to kiss their cheeks.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"On one condition."
"Anything"
"You include us in your acceptance speech when you win your first award."
"That's a given. I owe everything to the two of you. You took me in when no one wanted me."
Goldie wraps her arms around your shoulders to hug you tightly.
"and we're so glad that you let us all in, (y/n)."
"I love you so much."
"and we love you too."
