Summary: You're an orphan

Prompt by: a_lone_soul

You hated every single foster home they put you in. It was clear to you that all of them were only in it for the money due to the fact that they barely fed you or even gave you any clothes. They didn't care about you and you didn't care about so you came up with the plan to head out during one of the nights to escape that living hell.

Your foster parents checked your room one last time before they headed to bed. Thankfully, this home only had two other children that were much younger than you so you had your own room. With your backpack packed and enough money to last you a week, you headed out into the night.

Things were going great. You evaded the cops like the plague and always ended up having a warm meal and a place to stay. The only thing was that you had to lie about your age so they wouldn't call the cops on you. You stayed in your own lane and didn't talk to anyone so no one could suspect a thing about you still being a teenager.

That was until Lena Luthor and Kara Danvers came into the shelter. Hearing from the other people, you had come to find out that they always came in to talk to the people in here to see what they could do to help. They even stuck around to help distribute food as most of the time the kitchen staff was not sufficient enough.

"I don't think I've seen you around. Are you new here?"

Kara asked when she came to your area that you were staying in. You shrugged, not really wanting to talk to her. Adults couldn't be trusted. They were always so greedy and never cared about anyone but themselves. The women standing in front of you seemed nice but that was always a trick. The ones that seemed nice were always the cruelest.

"I'm sorry. I'm quite famished and I'd like to get some food."

Both Kara and Lena nod as they watch you head out to the kitchen. They were quite confused as to why all of the sudden you left. It's not like they seemed threatening. Lena had changed out of her suit and into some jeans and a shirt to avoid people recognizing her. Kara wore a similar outfit to Lena's.

"I really shouldn't be telling you this but I just want her to get some help. She's just only a teenager. I have a feeling that the foster system let her down and that's why she's stuck here."

"Thank you. We'll get her some help."

The two of them headed out to where you were sitting.

"My name is Lena and this is Kara. We're only here to help."

You can't help but laugh at her words. Help? You heard enough of that to know they were just going to do the opposite of it.

"I have a feeling that you won't. I don't need help. I'm fine taking care of myself. I've done that all my life."

Lena reaches over to take your hand, interlacing her fingers with yours.

"I truly want to help you. If you want, I can give you my number and if you ever need any help, just give me a call."

She doesn't wait for your response as she hands you one of her business cards with her personal number on it. It isn't until they head out that you thoroughly look at the card. Realizing that it was none other than Lena Luthor. Even then, you still couldn't believe she would help but you pocketed the card, having the number of a billionaire would come in handy.

You were fucking stupid. You knew to never trust an adult but yet the only woman that you talked to had betrayed you. She called the cops and they were already waiting for you when you had come back to sleep. There was really nothing you could do other than let them escort you to the police station where you were forced to wait for your foster parents to pick you up.

There was nothing to do other than watch the program was playing. On the screen was Lena, talking about a new invention that was meant to hit the shelves. That's when you remembered the card she gave you. With no one around to watch you, you grabbed an unsupervised number and dialed her number.

"Maggie? Is everything okay?"

"Oh. I'm sorry for bothering you, Ms. Luthor but I had no one else to call. I'm the girl from the shelter. The one you gave your card to."

Lena was surprised to have actually gotten a call from you. She didn't think you would actually use it but she was glad that you did.

"What's going on, sweetheart? Why are you at the police station?"

"I-I might've left my foster family. The police had been looking for me and ended up finding me at the shelter. I don't want to go back Ms. Luthor. Please don't make me go back."

Lena could hear how upset it made you about being made to go back. It reminded her of when she was young and it broke her heart. She had seen a little bit of herself in you and she knew that there was no way that she was going to let them take you back to the foster home.

"You won't go back. I'll take care of it. I have a friend there named Maggie. She's the one that sits on the desk you're borrowing the phone from. Stay there. I'll give her a call so she can go there with you while I make my way over."

"Thank, Ms. Luthor."

"Lena."

You hang up and patiently take a seat at Maggie's desk. A few officers glance at you both don't say anything. A while later, Maggie makes her way to her desk.

"So you're the kid, the Luthor is so instant on helping."

"I have a name, (y/n)."

"I'm definitely going to like you. I already knew that. I have your file right here. I'm not used to dealing with foster kids but I made an exception for a friend."

She stays quiet while looking through the large stack of paperwork. Maggie is halfway through when Lena finally arrives at the station with Kara in tow.

"Oh thank god. Thank you so much Maggie. I owe you one"

"Yeah, yeah. I'll leave the two of you. You let her know what is going on."

Maggie takes Kara and leads her to the breakroom to give the two of you space.

"So what's going to happen to me, now that I'm not heading back to my foster home."

Lena runs a hand through her hair. Not sure of how to tell you what would be the only way for you to avoid going back to foster care. It was still a bit of a shock to her to find herself adopting someone so suddenly. Lena had never thought of herself as a mother. As she was always afraid of turning out like Lillian but she didn't want you through the foster thing all over. Kara had helped her see that she was more than well prepared for a kid. She had even offered to help her out whenever she needed it.

"Well, the only way for you to avoid going back to your foster home was for you to get adopted. I realized that there's no one better than me to adopt you so here we are. Maggie has so kindly rushed the paperwork so you can come home with me."

Everything was happening so fast. Just a while ago, you thought you were going back to your foster home and now you come to find out that you're getting adopted. Tears began to form in your tears as to what it meant. You might've only known Lena for a while but she had come to show that she truly cared for you.

"Oh no. I'm so sorry. I should've talked it over with you. I knew it wasn't going to be a good idea."

"No!" Lena's startled by your sudden loud voice but you quickly give her a teary smile. "I mean, that it was a good idea. I've never met anyone as kind as you Lena. Thank you"

You stand up and make your way over to her to give her a hug. At the exact same time that Kara and Maggie come back.

"Who's ready to sign some papers?!"
