When your mom and dad had separated, he had been given sole custody due to the fact that they considered her job a high risk. Being granted sole custody, allowed for him to head back to Louisiana without telling JJ. He wanted to hurt her as much as she had hurt him, and the only way was to keep you hidden. You were oblivious to it all as you were only 8 years old. The only thing you dad had told you was that she was in an important mission and wouldn't be able to come home.
As you grew older, you began to suspect that he had lied to you. There was no real proof of him lying to you so you couldn't outright accuse him. He was a good father overall. That's why you didn't think he would react as badly as he did when you had told him about being gay.
Will practically exploded on you. Saying how no daughter of his was gay. That all you needed was to pray the gay away and all would be fine. He had even started going to church with you and making you stay after so the priest would pray for you. It was all too much. You couldn't stand living with him anymore because he wasn't the same father he was. All he would ever talk to you about was how you were confused and that everything would be back to normal after summer. You didn't want to wait around see what you meant so you began to search online for help.
At first, you had searched for anybody that specialized in these situations but then you were dragged down an internet hole as you searched for your mom. It annoyed you to no end that it had been fairly simple to find her online. Had you known that you could've simply searched for her with 'JJ FBI' then you would've been able to reconnect with your mother again.
You needed to wait until Will headed out to the police department before you called your mom. It was a bit nerve wrecking as you waited for her to answer. Did she still remember you? Had she been looking for you?"
"This is Agent Jareau. Who am I speaking to?'
"Mom?"
You hear a quiet gasp and the sound of the door closing.
"(y/n)?"
You try to say something, but you can't. You're practically paralyzed. You didn't she would recognize you. It had been so long.
"(y/n)? Is that really you?"
"It is mom."
You could hear her trying to discretely hide the fact that her nose was running.
"Oh my god. I need to see you. I can't believe it's you. Just give me a second."
She hangs up. Your phone rings again, signaling that you were receiving a video call. You answer. Gasping quietly when you finally see your mom after all these years. You could tell that she had been crying as her eyes were quite red.
"God. It's been so long. I tried to search for you but your father kept you so hidden from me. I did everything I could to find you but nothing would turn up."
"Mom, mom. It's okay. I know you tried your best."
She nods and wipes away her tears.
"How have you been?"
She notices you hesitate to answer right away.
"What's wrong?"
"Will and I just disagreed on some things"
"Will?"
You nod. You had stopped calling him dad, the moment he yelled at you for being gay.
"What things?"
"It's nothing, mom. I just wanted to contact you. See how you're doing."
"(Y/n)...please. Tell me what happened"
"I have to go. I'll talk to you later. It was nice to see you again mom."
"Wai...."
You hang up, not allowing her to continue talking. Seeing that it was already late, you went to sleep.

JJ had been worried sick since your phone call. She tried calling you but you never answered. She wanted to call the PD but figured that it wouldn't be a good idea as Will worked there. While she arranged everything to search for you, she had called the local FBI department for help. They quickly agreed. Telling her that they would keep her updated.
"What's going on JJ?"
JJ is startled by the sudden voice in her room.
"Shit, Emily. You scared me."
Emily looks around at all the clothes that were being thrown inside a suitcase.
"Do we have another case?"
JJ stops folding her clothes and turns to face Emily.
"No. You know how Will ended up taking (y/n) with him." Emily nods, allowing JJ to continue. "Well I found her, and I think she's in trouble. Using her number, I was able to get Penelope to give me a rough location of were she could be living. The local FBI department agreed to help me out and I'm taking the quickest flight to the city. I'm sorry for not telling you. My mind has been in overdrive ever since that call and I just want my baby back."
Emily holds her shoulders and makes her look up to her.
"Breathe, JJ. You've done everything you can. I'm confident the other department will find her by the time we get to the airport."
JJ takes a few deep breaths with Emily before she leans in to kiss her.
"We?"
"Yes, I'm coming with you. I'm not letting you do this alone."
"Thank you"

A couple of hours later and they arrive at the airport. In the middle of the flight, the other department had given her notice that they had taken you into custody as well as already processed everything that was needed for her to regain custody. A close friend of hers had even told her that she was going to bring you to the airport when they arrived.
"Mom!"
You run up to her, giving her the tightest hug, you've ever given someone. She returns it just as equally.
"You're safe, (y/n). He's not going to ever hurt you anymore."
After holding back all your feelings with Will, you finally let them all out. JJ holds you until you calmed down enough to let you go.
"(y/n), this is Emily, my girlfriend."
JJ had been worried that you were going to hate her but was relieved when she saw you hug her.
"It's nice to meet you, Emily."
"Nice to meet you too, kid."
JJ took your hand and led you through the airport. You just knew that JJ and Emily were going to keep you safe.
