You keep your head down, not wanting to see the disappointment in your mom's face. You had begged the principal not to call her as she was at work but she refused.

"I don't understand. Why is she getting suspended and not the other kids?"

"Ms. Manning.."

"Dr. Manning."

"Forgive me, Dr. Manning. I have multiple witnesses that your daughter started the fight. I can't just let her behavior go unpunished."

"My daughter is not someone who starts fights. I don't believe that she just started a fight without any reason. There is more to this story."

"Dr. Manning, your daughter started the fight and the punishment for a fight is suspension."

Natalie had stopped listening to her and turned to face you for the first time. She gasps quietly when she notices the large bruises over your arms and face.

"I don't understand why my daughter was not treated by the nurse. She's been sitting here for almost an hour in pain. I'm not letting this go, Principal Walker. Expect to hear from me tomorrow. Come on, (y/n). I'm taking you to the hospital."

Natalie stood up and followed behind you. She was even more pissed off after noticing the slight limp that you were doing. She was going to raise hell for this.

"What happened?"

You hear her ask you. You look down at your hands, trying to think of what to tell her.

"Nothing. Principal Walker was right, I started the fight."

"But why did you start the fight? You're not like this, (y/n). What happened."

You sigh and look out the window, deciding to stay quiet about it. There was no reason to make her worry. She had already enough on her plate and you weren't going to add to it.

"We will continue this conversation later. I'm only letting this go because you're probably in pain."

Your mom is quick to lead you to her office where she tells you to wait while she gets everything to treat your wounds and bruises. You just nod and watch her walk out. While she's gone, you sit at her chair and look at all the achievements and recognitions that she's gotten for her work. You can't help but smile, proud to call her your mother.

You're distracted from your thoughts when you hear some yelling down the hallway. Curious to hear what was going on, you step out and make your way over to the commotion.

"I don't want you to be treating my brother. I want another doctor. You could kill him. What do you know about medicine. You probably slept your way through your grades."

You narrow your eyes at the man, hating the way he was speaking to your mother. Patient as ever, she tried to calm him down by letting him know that she was more than capable of helping his brother. He doesn't listen to her, simply just continues to yell at her and the other nurses as they attempt to get him to calm down. Seeing that nothing was calming him down, you calmly walked up to him, grabbed the back of his neck and slammed his face against the wall. Not enough to break anything but enough to stun him.

"Shut the fuck up. My mother is the best doctor in this hospital. Your brother would be lucky to get treated by her."

You let go of him and make your way back to your mother's office, ignoring the looks that everyone was giving you.

Natalie just stared at you, unsure if she should feel proud of what you had done. She excuses herself and follows you.

"You shouldn't have done that, (y/n)."

"I wasn't going to let him talk to you like that, mom."

Natalie sighs and takes a seat besides you. She sets the supplies on her desk and gets to work on cleaning your wounds.

"Yes but you also shouldn't have hurt him. Are you going to tell me what those boys did to get you to hit them too."

"No."

"(y/n)..come on. Tell em. What happened? I'm on your side. I want to help you."

"They were just being stupid. I only did what I had to do to shut them up."

Natalie stops and looks straight at you.

"Okay, you don't have to tell me but please promise me that it won't happen again. I know that it's hard to stop yourself from wanting to hit people for what they say but that doesn't solve anything. It just makes things worse."

You're grateful that she doesn't continue to insist for you to tell her. Not wanting to worry her any further, you agree.

"I'm sorry for making you worry, mom."

She gives you a small smile and a kiss on your forehead once she finishes.

"You're forgiven. Just please no more fighting. I nearly had a heart attack when I got a call about you getting into a fight."

"I promise mom. It won't happen again."

"Good, now come on. I'm starving."
