And like that I awoke again after a fit of nightmares. I wake up in a white room and the panic sets in. I sit up quickly and the pain sets in, only to be held down.
"No, no, its okay! It's just me." It's Midnight. She looks exhausted. "Lay back down, you're badly hurt."
I do as she says. "What's going on? Where am I?" It looks like the nurse's station, but more expensive.
"You're at the hospital. Your injuries needed a bit more than Recovery Girl could offer." She sits on the edge of the bed and sighs. "Haze, what happened?"
I start to speak and then I start to cry. "He knew. I don't know how, but he knew." I cover my face with my hands.
She gently grabs my hands. "I'm going to tell you something and I need you to listen before you say anything, okay?"
I look at her and sit up slightly.
"We all know what happened at the school."
I look at her in shock and confusion. How could they know? The only people I told was Dr. Hanford and he didn't believe me.
"When we decided we wanted you at UA, we weren't the only ones. Dozens of schools around the world wanted you and some organizations too. You're quite powerful and that made you desired by many. And not just hero agencies. There were some questionable groups and I suspect one of them was the League in disguise. We were all briefed on your situation and were given recordings of the tests they did to determine the extent of your abilities, as well as the interviews you gave in the very beginning." That's how they know. In the beginning I thought Hanford was going to help, I told him everything and he didn't care.
"When it came down to deciding who would take you, there was an auction." She continues. "UA was the highest bidder."
I can't find the words to describe how I feel. Should I be mad they didn't tell me? Should I feel grateful they even wanted me?
"I should've told you earlier and I am so sorry. I just wanted you to come to me when you were ready to talk about it. We never wanted you to find out like this." Her voice cracks and her eyes are glossy. "We knew that facility was known for their unconventional methods, but we had no idea how bad it really was."
I chew my lip and take a breath. There's something I want to ask her, but I don't know if I want to hear the answer.
There's a knock on the door. As it opens Bakugo and Shoto are standing there.
"Boys, I don't think now is the best ti-," Midnight starts.
"We just want to make sure she's okay." Shoto pleads calmly. She looks at me and I nod.
"I'm going to get you some food. I'll be back." She gives a small smile and walks out.
I sit up a bit more as they stand next to me. Todoroki pulls up a chair on the opposite side, as Bakugo stands there with his hands in his pockets.
BAKUGO'S POV
"We're not really allowed to see you. They didn't want you to have any visitors other than faculty members, so while Kirishima was causing a scene, we snuck in." I chuckle. She doesn't look at me or even crack a smile."Your conscience is cleared, you can go now." She says coldly. I sigh and pull up a chair next to the bed. I really do care about her, but the guys joke and tease. I'm supposed to be the intimidating one.
As I begin to speak, Kirishima comes in and shuts the door behind him.
"Man those guys are strict." He hands her a bouquet of sunflowers. "Here, I thought they might cheer you up." She takes them and holds them on her lap.
