The Shaggy Blonde

We ended up in a downtown area. The lights were so florescent and colorful as they reflected off of the rows of windows. Seeing everyone not dressed in a uniform or a hero costume definitely felt like a culture shock. The air was definitely different. I'm afraid I'll feel claustrophobic once I have to go back.

I sat on the edge of the rooftop peering down, trying to get a good look at as much as I can to save a mental image for when I am back in my room. We've been in this same position for over an hour and we haven't gotten any calls. Well, technically we have, but they were so minor, Endeavor didn't think they were worth the calories. Before that we walked through alleyways for what felt like forever away from main streets and people because a certain number two hero didn't feel like appeasing any fans we might have encountered.

"You're supposed to be keeping an eye out for trouble." Shoto starts.

"I am." Still looking at the scenery. "I'm just looking everywhere very, very closely."

He scoffs. "If you're not planning to contribute then why are you here?"

I look at him as he stands next to me. "Excuse me?" Is he being serious?

"Am I wrong?" I'm sure he's angry at Endeavor for trying to embarrass him. What could he know anyway? It's not like he spends anytime with his son.

I stand up to face him. "Hey, come on. We can forget about what your dad said. He's just a helicopter parent, but-,"

"But nothing." He snaps. "Next time, I won't let you win."

I chuckle. "Let me? Shoto, it's our first day, cut yourself some slack." I place my hand on his shoulder in a light hearted manner. He shrugs it off.

"Maybe I've been doing that too much." He remarks.

"What do you mean?" I cross my arms.

"Maybe, instead of babysitting you after school all the time, constantly worrying about your problems, I should've been focusing on my training."

I'm taken aback. "Wow," I nod my head. "And here I thought friends were supposed to be there for each other."

"We'll need to reevaluate the schedule. I'll need more days to myself."

I wave my hands at him. "Don't even worry about it. As of right now, you are relieved from your duties entirely. Enjoy your freedom." I smile sarcastically and sit back down, looking at the city.

What crawled in his ass? Is he really taking what his father said that seriously? He knows he's a great fighter, we all know. But one comment from Endeavor and he's ready to dump our friendship to boost his ego?

"Enough chit chat." Endeavor starts.

I perk up. "Are we going to patrol the main streets now?" I'm so eager to get a closer look.

"No." I drop my shoulders. "We're done for tonight. Maybe now you'll realize that hero work isn't constant action like you've let your naive little mind to believe." He snaps.

I hold my hands up. "Alright. Duly noted." I stand up and we make our way back, getting one last glimpse at the city. It's like an itch, I have to scratch it.

He has a car pick us up. It has darkened windows, making it even harder for me to observe what the rest of the world has to offer. I feel so fidgety, I can barely contain myself.

"Will we patrol again tomorrow...sir?" Adding that label to gain some points and hopefully a more eventful night. Shoto looks at me and rolls his eyes at the way I'm speaking to his father.

He smirks. "I haven't decided yet. Perhaps I'll have you both run drills tomorrow at the agency."

I can't tell if he's trying to mess with me or if he's being serious. I think he just enjoys tormenting me, but now my leg is bouncing and I try my hardest to focus on the dimmed, passing scenery just in case I don't get to see it tomorrow.
