It wasn't an ending anyone expected. After seeing Todoroki's performances earlier, I think most expected him to use his fire. You could tell Bakugo was getting really frustrated about it, but Shoto wasn't going to let up this time. In fact he practically gave up in the end. He took that last blast with its full impact.
"Hey!" Bakugo holds his unconscious body up by his collar. "It can't end this way unless you try harder! Now get up!" His screams are emotional, but Midnight's pheromones put his hyperactive body to sleep.
I stood with the others on the field as they brought out the winners. They bound Bakugo's body and mouth to keep him from trying to keep fighting during the awards and from using expletive language. He's trying hard to break free, but has no such luck.
"Tenya Iida actually shares the third place stand with Tokoyami, but had to leave due to family reasons." Midnight announces.
I lean into Izuku. "What happened? Is everything okay?"
He sighs. "His brother was attacked by a villain today." His eyes water a bit. I've never met someone so empathetic. "I hope he's alright, for Iida's sake."
He takes a shaky breath to stop himself from crying. He's such a good friend.
I grab his good hand and squeeze it. "I'm sure everything will be alright." He smiles and nods lightly.
"Now it's time for the hardware!" She announces. All Might appears to distribute the medals and the stadium roars with excitement. As he gives Shoto his medal and hugs his frigid body, I'm sure Endeavor is steaming. He takes Bakugo's mouth piece off.
"All Might," He growls. "Winning this way doesn't prove that I'm the best one here! Even if the world considers me a winner, I refuse to accept it like this!"
Geez, even though he won, he won't let up. His screams and growls continue after All Might hung his medal from his mouth.
"You sure surprised everyone at the end." I remind Shoto as we walk away from the stadium. "What changed after your fight with Izuku?"
He sighs. "His support for me was unmatched, but I can't fight this feeling I have that goes against his words. I have to figure out who I want to become. And," He stops.
"What is it?" I ask concerned.
He looks to the ground. "I want to see my mother. She was so disgusted with my left side. It reminded her of him. She gave me this." He says pushing his hair out of his eye, showing me the burn scar. I had always noticed it, but it never felt right to ask.
"Where is she?" I ask.
"She's in the hospital. My father put her there for her own good, so he says. It never felt appropriate to visit her and I always doubted she ever wanted to see me. I would just cause her pain."
I put my hand on his shoulder. "Despite your father's toxicity, I'm sure she's incredibly proud of you and who you've become."
He looks at me. "If I asked you to come with me one day, would that be too forward?"
I'm a bit taken aback. "Of course, I'd be happy to go with you, but why me?"
He chuckles. "You're my friend and I," He sighs. "I need you."
I smile and hug him. His hand hesitates, but he eventually wraps them around me.
"I'll always be there for you." I say quietly.
