Shoto and I walked together to my house. Aizawa wanted us to train today, but just a light session. Shoto didn't say much all day, mostly just deep in thought.
"Are you okay?" I ask. "You seem distracted."
He doesn't look up from the ground. "This festival is very important."
I nod. "If you're worried about getting scoute-,"
"I'm not." He interrupts me. "My father is going to be there."
He's never mentioned him before. "Oh, and you're not excited about it?"
He shakes his head. "My father is as arrogant as they come. He wants me to be like him, but I despise him. That's why I never use my left side to attack."
"So you inherited the ice side from your mother?" I ask.
He nods lightly. "He wanted to have powerful children. So he made sure to find someone with a powerful quirk to add to the gene pool. But that's all he cares about, power. Which is why I need to focus my strengths on only my right side. If I can win the festival without using his quirk, it'll be a slap in the face to his efforts."
"You never talk about yourself to me, much less your family." We stop walking.
He shrugs. "It's not something I find to be very interesting." His voice has a slight hint of sadness to it.
"You know, I feel like you've helped me through almost every crisis I've had. You've seen me at my most vulnerable and unstable since I've gotten here. You've been a great friend to me and I want to be there for you as well." Sometimes I feel selfish. I want to contribute more to our friendship.
He gives me a small smile. "I know. I wouldn't have expected anything different from you. You want to help everyone, even though some of those don't deserve it in my opinion."
I shrug. "I like the others. I think if you just took the time to get to know them, you'd see that they're really cool and fun."
He scoffs. "Like Bakugo?"
I sigh. "He has good moments, I promise."
"I'm sure he's led you to believe that." He remarks and keeps walking.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, stopping him.
"I just don't think it's in your best interest to hang around him so much. He doesn't care about what he says or does and he could set you off."
I groan. "That's not true. He's making an effort to monitor his words. I trust him. And even if he upsets me, he always goes out of his way to make it better. Can't you give him credit for that?"
He rolls his eyes. "So if someone shoots you and then puts a bandaid on the wound, only to shoot you again, you're still willing to forgive them?"
I shake my head. "That's not what it's like with him. And who are you to judge, huh? When we met you were so rude, you threw an ice spear at my head."
He laughs. "I remember. But I also know after that experience, to take your feelings into account before speaking. That's something he lacks."
"Look, like it or not, I like him a lot. And despite your unnecessary rivalry, I don't plan on ditching either of you. So, can you please just try to make an effort to be friends?" I ask nicely. He doesn't say anything. "Shoto?"
"You like him a lot? Are you saying you've developed some sort of school girl crush on him?" He asks, a bit disgusted, like the thought of having feelings for someone is beneath him.
I sigh and push my hair back, looking at the sky. "I don't know, okay? Can we just drop it and go train, please?"
He shakes his head. "No, I have to go prepare for the festival." He walks away without another word.
"So that's it then?" I ask. He stops.
"I'll see you at the festival."
