The day had come. The school had really pulled out all the stops for the festival. Everyone was talking about it.

I found Bakugo as he entered the school grounds in the early morning. He had been so focused on training he had hardly said anything to anyone. Except the other hero courses by insulting their efforts and painting a target on class 1-A's backs.

Even though the sun has barely come up, he looks alert. His eyes full of focus, his hair still as spiky as ever. He looks really cute like this. You also have to admire his determination, he really does want to be the best and doesn't take any shortcuts to get there. He's incredibly smart and agile. And even if he's discreet about it, I think he genuinely cares. I know Shoto isn't his biggest fan and I understand why, but I can't shake this feeling that he actually cares about me. Maybe Midnight was right. Maybe I should shoot my shot. But not now. I don't think I'm brave enough.

He sees me and smiles. "Hope you're ready to see me kick some ass out there." He smirks punching his palm.

I laugh. "You're just lucky I'm not going to be in it otherwise I'd drop your ass in front of all those people." I tease.

"I have to win this Haze. If I ever want to be number one I have to destroy the others." He balls his hand into a fist.

"Destroy? Really?" I question. "Why not just defeat?"

He stops walking and looks at me. "Do you think I can do it?" His eyes are full of hope and impatience.

I smile. "I think you can win if you don't let your arrogance get in the way of your strategizing. Just stay focused."

He nods. "You know I'm giving the opening speech?"

I nod. "Aizawa told last night. That's amazing! What are you going to say?"

He smirks. "I'm going to tell the other students they can suck it and to try not to cry to their moms when this is over!" He laughs. Oh boy.

"I'm going to be honest with you because I'm your friend." He stops laughing. "That's a horrible idea. Consider toning it down a touch on the aggro scale." I playfully attempt to punch his stomach. He grabs my fist.

He rolls his eyes with a smile. "How are your ribs?"

I try to ignore the feeling of fluttering in my stomach. "They're fine. I don't have to wear the bandages anymore, but I still can't push them yet."

He nods. "Good. Are you, um, are you okay?" He asks, a bit cautiously, looking at my hand, not letting go.

I smile, squeezing his hand gently. "Don't worry about me. Focus on today." He doesn't need to be letting my issues cloud his mind today.

He scoffs, "Tch, my brain can handle more than one thought at a time. I'm not easily distracted, now answer the question."

I can't help but feel so shy right now. The need to tell him how I feel only grows in me and the fluttering intensifies.

"I'm okay, really." I answer. I look at our hands and my heart rate increases. I don't know if I'll last the day. I sigh. "Can we talk later?"

He furrows his brows. "Why not now?"

I chew my lip. "Please?"

He sighs. "Fine. I'm going to get changed. Can you wait here?" He asks, letting go of my hand.

I shake my head, eager to leave. "I have to go meet Midnight. She's going to help me get ready and then introduce me to some of the pros before it starts."

"So you're going to march around like a show pony?" He laughs.

I cross my arms. "Careful what you say or I might say something embarrassing about you to the pros." He stops laughing and I start. "I'm kidding."
