Chapter 10

Nakasimangot si Josh habang kumakain silasa cafe na iyon. Eunica was chomping through her doughnut like there was no tomorrow. Saritha will really miss her friends.

"Ang biglaan naman ng desisyon mo, sis," kumento ni Josh. Kaka-announce lamang kasi niya na aalis na siya to Singapore in a few weeks' time kaya inaayos na lamang niya ang ibang mga requirements to transfer her to a new university.

"Well, I had Papa's support so it was an easy move...," she admitted.

"Oh baka naman may iniiwasan ka dito sa Pilipinas?"

Umiling siya kaagad. What a lie. 

"Oooof, mga bes. Look at that gorgeous Chinito going into our direction. Hanggang dito ba naman natagpuan tayo ng pinsan mo. Feeling ko talaga may gusto 'yan sa'kin or kay Eunica. Palagi na lang sumusulpot at nakasunod kung nasaan tayo," Josh said habang kinikilig. 

Sabay na lumingon sina Eunica at Sari sa direksyon na itinuro ni Josh. True enough, Yego has just entered the cafe looking so cool and casual in a blue polo and white shorts. 

"How did he find me here?" Sari whispered to herself na narinig ni Josh.

"Hi," bati ni Yego nang makalapit sa kanila ng tuluyan.

"Hello," Eunica and Josh said in unison while Sari just kept quiet and continued sipping her cup of coffee.

"Scoot," utos ni Yego sa kanya at bigla na lamang umupo sa couch katabi niya.

Sari just gave him a side eye. 

"How are you, guys?" kaswal at masayang bati ni Yego.

 Nagulat naman sina Josh at Eunica sa parang feeling-close na pagbati nito. 

"What do you need?" Sari asked, annoyed.

"Ma said you were here," kwento ni Yego. "So I just want to fetch my wife. Baka wala kang mahanap na taxi or Grab mamaya."

Halos mabulunan sina Josh at Eunica sa narinig. And Sari looked at him with eyes wide open. 

Josh and Eunica were just both staring at her, waiting for an explanation.

"Anong masarap na kape dito?" parang walang kaano-anong tanong ni Yego. 

Iniinis talaga siya ng lalaking ito. "What are you really here for, Tantoco?" iritang tanong niya muli sa binata.

"Babe, I missed you. Hindi ka na umuuwi sa atin. Of course, I will be forced to follow you around," sagot ni Yego na lalong ikinalaki ng mga mata nina Josh at Eunica.

"You think this is funny! Stop ruining my time with my friends. Doon ka na sa mga kaibigan mo at mga haliparot mong babae!" At pinagtulakan niya ito paalis ng couch. 

However, he was strong. He looked unbothered by her pushing. "Since wala kang balak magpaliwanag sa mga kaibigan mo, ako na ang magsasabi sa kanila. Yes, I am Saritha's husband. We got married a month ago. Hindi kami magpinsan."

"Arghh!!!" she exclaimed at tumayo para hilahin palabas ng cafe si Yego. Once they were out, Yego was laughing so hard. 

"You look like you just run a marathon!"

"What are you doing? Why are you suddenly prancing around telling me that I'm your wife! Are you bored with your life now that I'm not there in your house to bore you anymore?" she asked. 

Yego controlled his laughter and smiled. "I just wanna tell everyone the truth now. Samahan mo ko mamaya. Ipapakilala na kita sa mga kaibigan ko as my wife."

"Don't you get it?" 

"What?" He stepped closer and held her hand para suyuin ito.

She pushed his hand away. "I don't like you. I don't want you. And I am moving away to make things easier for us. We're not ready for anything, much more this marriage. Just go on and live your life! I'll be living my own. This marriage will just be on paper for our family's sake and you... you can do whatever you want in life and I won't stop you. Please... I hope this is clear now. Stop following me." And with that, she walked away from him.

Hindi niya maintindihan ang sarili. She went back in the cafe but she felt like her heart was being ripped into pieces.

"Anong problema ninyong dalawa?" Aries asked his two friends. Nasa condo sila ngayon ni Yego at nag-iinuman. 

"My mom is back," Atticus said and sulked in one corner.

Yego just shrugged and drank his bottle. "Your problem is scary, Atticus. I know Tita... Why is she back?" Yego asked.

"Probably got tired of prancing around with her lover and now she wants money from the company. She's even bothering Celine for goodness' sake."

"Sabi na nga ba," tatawa-tawang kumento ni Aries. "Babae."

"Shut up. We're not blood-related," Atticus said.

"So meaning?" untag ni Aries.

"She's my girlfriend now," anunsyo ni Atticus na ikinagulat ng dalawa.

 Yego just laughed. "You are doomed, man. Akala ko ba bawal magpatali sa babae?"

Aries just looked at Yego weirdly. "At least, hindi sila blood-related ni Celine. Eh ikaw? Pinsan mo pinagnanasahan mo. Pucha! First cousin mo ba 'yun?"

Nag-init ang ulo ni Yego sa biglang pag-bring up nito kay Saritha. "Fucker!" Yego exlaimed.

"Why? Did I hit a nerve?" Aries asked as he sat beside Yego and laughed. "We were just guessing. We can see how you look at her."

"She's leaving for Singapore now. Gone for good," Yego said. 

"Damn...  Sayang, I could have really courted her. She's so pretty with her long, brown hair," Aries said.

"Fuck you! That's my wife you're talking about!"

Aries' jaw dropped. Atticus looked at Yego as if he just ate poison. 

"Chill, guys. I'm still me... just married," pag-amin ni Yego.

"What the fuck!" Aries exclaimed.

"To your cousin?!" Atticus shouted. 

Yego stood up and shook his head. "Not my cousin. Palabas lang namin 'yun. We got married a month ago and she lived with me for a while... but we figured we're not ready for this marriage thing yet. So until then, we'll live apart."

"Why the fuck were we not invited?" Nagmamaktol ngayon si Aries na parang bata.

"It was just a small ceremony. Just immediate family. Me and my parents and hers as well."

"But am I hearing you right? She lived with you for a while?" Aries asked. "And now, she left?"

Tumango si Yego. "Kaya lagi 'nyo siyang nakikita dito sa condo. This is my parents' wedding gift for us."

"She left you already?" tatawa-tawang tanong ni Aries. "Dude, you are doomed. Wala pang one month, iniwan ka na ng asawa mo."

Nagdilim ang paningin ni Yego nang makitang pati si Atticus ay natatawa na rin sa mungkahi ni Aries. "She just needs to study abroad for a while. But she'll be back."

"Where is she now?" Aries mocked.

"With her parents," sagot ni Yego.

Bumunghalit ng tawa ang dalawa sa harapan ni Yego. "Dude, you're fucked. She just left you for good and you don't even know it."
