Chapter 18

"Welcome!!" masayang bati ni Celine kay Sari as she entered the hotel resort lobby. "How was the drive?"

Sari was pulling a luggage and carrying a hand bag. She smiled at her newfound friend and hugged her tightly. "This is it!" Sari said, all pumped up and excited for Celine.

"I know! I know!" Celine squealed. 

She laughed at her excitement. "So where's my room?"

"I stationed you beside Ashley para kung may magtangka man sa buhay ninyo, makakasigaw kayo sa pader," pagbibiro nito. "Here let me help you!"

"No, kaya ko na 'to. I'll just drop this in my room. Then, I'll meet you for lunch," Sari said.

"Okay, sige." Celine handed her a key card with the room number. 

"Thanks!" 

Just then, Atticus came out of the elevator of the lobby and walked towards them. "Hey, Sari!"

"Atticus," bati rin ni Sari. "Ano? Nakakatulog ka naman ng mahimbing?" biro niya sa kaibigan.

Atticus just laughed at her joke. "Don't make me look like a lovesick puppy in front of her. Baka lumaki ang ulo niyan.

Sari laughed as well. "Aminin mo ng hindi ka makapaghintay na ikasal kayo!"

"Fine, fine" pag-amin ni Atticus. "Where's Yego?"

"Bakit hinahanap mo si Yego kay Sari?" asked Celine.

Atticus was suddenly speechless. "Oh, nothing. I just... asked."

"He's in a business trip in Vietnam, I think? Other than that, I think he'll be here tonight just in time for the wedding rehearsal at 6PM," Sari responded, trying to sound like she knows all these info as a friend. "Anyway, I'll go up guys. See you over lunch."

Sari changed into a yellow spaghetti strap summer dress. And then, she just brought a wide-brimmed white hat and a paid of sunnies just in case the sun is bright. Sa veranda ng hotel restaurant kasi ang lunch nila.

She checked her phone. Wala pa ring message si Yego kung nasan na ba ito. Huling message nito ay nasa meeting ito nitong umaga. She just shrugged and dumped her phone in her bag. 

She went down and saw Atticus, Celine, Ashley and Aries on the table. Marami na ring pagkain ang nakahain sa kanila sa table. Everything looked so appetizing lalo na't beachfront ang view nila. Aries was sitting at the headseat. Six-seater lamang ang rectangular table na iyon. Magkatabi sina Atticus and Celine on one side. So she sat beside Ashley on the other.

"There's another beautiful lady," masayang bati sa kanya ni Aries. "Maaga ka rin pala."

"Yup, I opted to go on a leave today. I don't want to be caught up in the Friday rush hour going to the resort tonight," she said. "Hey, Ash!"

"Hi," Ashley greeted back while taking a sip of pineapple juice.

"Where's Yego?" tanong ni Aries sa kanya.

Celine's brows furrowed. "Bakit ba sa kanya ninyo lagi hinahanap si Yego? Mag-ex na sila di ba? Kung magtanong kayo parang asawa niya si Yego." 

Sari was stoned on her seat. At nakita niya kung paano siniko ni Aries si Atticus, probably asking for help to shut Celine.

Sari just breathed deeply and tried pretending to laugh. "He wishes! Hinding-hindi ako papatol sa babaerong selfish na lalaking iyon." Hindi pa rin nagte-text sa kanya ang walang hiya!

Aries swallowed. "Hindi naman selfish si Yego."

"He is! And very self-absorbed I would say. I'm even surprised how you can stand him, you know. Ang tagal nyo na siyang pinagtitiisan bilang kaibigan," Sari continued. She put down her sunnies beside her plate at tinitigan si Aries. Bakit biglang tumahimik ito?

Everyone was now looking at someone behind her. So Sari turned around to see who it was. Lo and behold! Nasa likod niya na pala ang asawa niya and judging by his face, he heard everything she said.

"Yego," bati niya sa asawa.

"Yego, sit down," Celine welcomed him. "Mabuti at maaga kang nakasunod!"

"Yeah, I was in a rush. I had an early morning meeting at dumiretso kagad ako sa airport for my flight pagkatapos," he said, not looking at Sari. "I just couldn't wait to see you all." Yego sat at the other head seat across Aries. 

Aries chimed in. "Let's all congratulate him. He just closed a huge deal with a Vietnamese millionaire. Mukhang yayaman pa lalo ang kaibigan nating ito."

"Wow, congratulations," Ashley said. 

"A bank, a telecom, what's next, bro?" masayang tanong ni Atticus. 

Everyone was congratulating Yego but Sari kept quiet. She didn't mean what she said. Nainis lang siya talaga na hindi man lamang ito nagte-text sa kanya. Iyon pala ay nagmadali ito sa flight ito pabalik. 

"Probably a resort?" suhestyon ni Celine. 

"I'm putting up a foundation, guys. And my holdings company is planning to acquire a construction firm," balita ni Yego sa kanilang lahat. "The foundation will be spearheaded by Sari."

"Wow, this has been all you've ever wanted," Atticus stated, looking at Sari. "Yego, alam mo bang wala na yatang bukangbibig si Sari kundi magkaroon ng sarili niyang foundation na pamumunuan at idededicate daw niya iyon para sa mga batang ulila?"

Sari smiled at Atticus. "Yup."

"That's why I got her for the job. I know she'll do great and help a lot of people," Yego agreed.

"And help you lessen corporate tax to be paid," biro ni Aries.

"Thanks for the opportunity," Sari said, not meeting Yego's eyes. And out of the blue, under the table she felt him grab her hand and squeezed it. She felt her face redden at his touch kaya mabilis niyang binawi ang kamay mula kay Yego. He's sweet alright. But she needs to guard her heart this time. Nasaktan na siya nito noon.

"Kinikilig ako. Magbabalikan na yan!" Aries said, laughing.
