Chapter 22

"Hey, I missed you," salubong sa kanya ni Yego at niyakap siya nito ng mahigpit.

She was on the couch, reading a book. Umuwi siyang diretso ng condo nila matapos niyang masaksihan na magkasama ito at si Fiona na bumaba ng eroplano. She decided to stay quiet and just wait for him to tell her dahil baka nakasabay lang niya ito ng flight at nagbatian lamang dahil dati naman silang magkakilala?

But the kid bothered her.

"Hey," ganting bati niya. 

He cupped her face and firmly kissed her on the lips. "This feels like home."

She just smiled. "So how was your flight?"

"Delayed as usual," sagot nito habang nakaupo sa tabi niya at ipinilig ang ulo sa head rest ng couch. "What have you been doing?" 

"Wala naman. Just work and some set up for the foundation. Mala-launch na natin siya in three week's time!" balita niya.

"Wow, you're great," puri nito at niyakap siyang muli.

"So how was Vietnam?" she casually asked, trying to probe something out from him.

"You know... work. Boring stuff," tipid na sagot nito. "Do you want me to take you out for dinner?" pag-iiba kagad nito ng usapan.

She just simply nodded. 

"Okay, I'll just quickly bathe and then, I'll take you out." Tumayo na ito at nagdirediretso papataas sa kwarto nila habang dala-dala ang isang maleta nito.

After a while, she decided to quickly follow him sa kwarto nila. Pagkapasok niya ay narinig niya ang shower. Naliligo na si Yego. At tinitigan niya ang maleta nitong ngayon ay bukas pero hindi pa naaayos.

Perhaps she should be a good wife and throw his dirty clothes in the hamper. And so she did, hiniwa-hiwalay niya ang de kulay sa mga puti. She was carrying the white ones sa hamper sa walk in closet nila ng may mahulog na envelope doon. 

She crouched down to get it but what caught her attention was the logo stamped on it. Ho Chi Minh City DNA Testing Clinic. She turned the letter over to find out it was already open. Kinabahan siya bigla ng makita iyon.

She quickly pulled out the letter inside and quickly read it. "Paternal test..."

She didn't even finish the letter dahil nag-una-unahan ng pumatak ang mga luha sa mata niya. Bumalik sa isip niya ang batang niyakap kanina ni Yego. Fiona's child... is his. Parang naninikip bigla ang dibdib niya. 

Narinig niyang pinatay na ni Yego ang shower sa bathroom kaya dali-dali niyang ibinalik ang sulat sa envelope at itinago sa gitna ng mga damit nito. 

She quickly got a cardigan, her working bag, her laptop and a pair of flats. Dali-dali siyang lumabas sa condo papunta sa kotse niya sa basement. Medyo malabo ang paningin niya because of tears blocking her view. But she didn't care. She drove some place far... anywhere away from Yego.

Saritha woke up from a long nap. She sat up and stared at her surroundings. Oo nga pala. She checked in a hotel last night dahil alam niyang susundan at mahahanap siya ni Yego kung uuwi siya sa bahay ng mga magulang nila or sa condo niya.

She needed to get away from him because she was hurt.

When finally she thought everything was going to be okay for them, sinaktan na naman siya nito and he was hiding another family! A kid of his own! Hindi man lamang nito pinagkaabalahang ipagtapat sa kanya iyon.

She reached out for her phone and saw 47 missed calls and 70 messages from her husband. Pero hindi niya pinagkaabalahang pansinin iyon. What caught her attention was the message of Celine.

She opened it and read. "I have a problem and I need your help. Call me ASAP."

At first, she didn't want to answer Celine dahil baka patibong iyon ni Yego. Pero nanaig ang kuryosidad sa kanya so she gave Celine a call.

Three rings bago ito tuluyang sumagot.

"There you are, Sari!" bulalas ng kabilang linya. "I've been calling you this morning."

Saritha looked at the clock. Bandang alas-diyes na ng umaga. Tinanghali na siya ng gising sa kakaiyak niya kagabi. "Hey, Celine. Sorry... I'm... just busy."

"Hinahanap ka nina Yego at Atticus. Kanina pa! Yego stormed here asking Atticus for help. Alalang-alala siya sayo. Nawala ka na lang daw bigla kagabi at wala ka sa condo mo noong hanapin ka niya roon! Your parents are also clueless!"

Napakunot ang noo niya. "Please don't tell him I called you. I don't want him to find me. If this is why you called, I'm sorry but I have to hang up."

"Wait!"

"So?"

"Sari, I meant to call because of something else." Sumeryoso bigla ang tono nito.

"What is it?"

"I think you're the only one who can change Ashley's mind. You have a lot of connections with foundations for kids. Please help me change Ashley's mind," pagsusumamo nito. 

"What do you mean?"

"She's pregnant, Sari. With Aries' child!" balita nito.

Napahawak siya sa bibig niya. 

"And she wants to get an abortion immediately dahil iniisip niya na makakasagabal ang bata sa career niya." Celine breathed deeply on the other line. "But I know she'll regret it and Aries doesn't want her to. Handa si Aries na panagutan siya. She's the only one who wants the other way out... Please help me change her mind."

She quickly thought of something. She's worked with orphaned kids all her life at alam niya kung gaano kalungkot ang mabuhay ng walang magulang. Pero mas masakit ang hindi maipanganak dahil lamang ayaw ka ng sarili mong ina. But Ashley doesn't seem to be the type that's heartless. "I know a foundation in Barcelona that can help. There are kids there orphaned by their moms during childbirth. Iniiwan sila sa mga madre doon because of unexpected pregnancies out of wedlock."

"Okay, okay. Sige, that would be perfect! She wants a place na hindi siya matutuntun ni Aries. So please help me hide her."

"Okay," she agreed. "Please don't tell Yego where I am. Nagmamakaawa din ako. I don't want to talk to him or see him at all. If you do this, I'll help Ashley." And finally. Just like that! She found a way out of this pain. Tatakasan niya muli ang lalaking nanakit sa kanya.
