Chapter 17

"Sari, meet Ashely. She's  my maid of honor," pakilala ni Celine sa dalawang kaibigan. 

"Hi, Sari," bati kay Sari ng isang modelong kaibigan ni Celine. They were now in a cafe by BGC area. Nagrequest kasing makipagkita si Celine para pag-usapan ang ilang mga detalye ng kasal nila.

"Hi, Ash. Can I call you Ash?"

"Sure!" masayang sagot nito. "So where do we begin?" tanong nito kay Celine.

"Wait ah. I'll just order for us. They have the best coffee and ensaymada pairing here." Celine just called a waitress para mabilis na umorder ng merienda nila. After the waitress left, ibinaling na muli nito ang attention sa kanilang dalawa. "Anyway, girls, I'm really thankful that you're here on such short notice."

"May magagawa ba kami?" biro ni Ashley. 

"Ang sama mo!" countered Celine. "Sari, my best friend can be a bit rough sometimes, okay? Feel free to slap her anytime."

Sari just laughed at Celine's comment. 

"Anyway, Sari, since you're a close friend of Atticus, gusto ko sanang maging part ka rin ng entourage ko."

"What? Really?" masayang bulalas ni Saritha.

Tumango-tango ito. "You've witnessed how much he loves me kahit na magkalayo kami. I need you as a proof of his loyalty."

Natawa na lamang si Sari sa sinabing iyon ng kaibigan. "Okay. Game ako diyan. I can testify kung ilang tequila shots ang nainom ng lalaking 'yon dahil sa kabiguan niya sa'yo," biro ni Sari.

"Perfect!" Celine exclaimed. "And the wedding is this week by the way!"

"This week?" Ashley and Sari asked in unison.

"Yes, I'm pregnant and Atticus wants us to get married as soon as possible. So," Celine paused for a minute as she gets something from her bag. "Here are your invitations and schedule for your gown fitting. May theme na so all you have to do is appear tomorrow in my friend's shop. The wedding venue is there in the invitation as well."

"In six days," Sari said.

Tumango naman si Celine. "See you there!"

That night, gabi ng nakarating ng condo si Sari sa dami ng inayos niya para sa pinapatayong foundation. Nagreport din siya sa architectural firm nila nitong umaga. The penthouse was still dark at wala pa si Yego. 

Mabuti na lamang nag takeout na lamang siya ng McDonald's for dinner tonight. She quickly ran to their room, opened the TV for Netflix, kicked off her heels and sat on the bed to choose a series on the screen.

She was halfway on the comedy show ng icheck ang orasan. It was already 10PM pero bakit wala pa rin ang magaling niyang asawa?

She checked her phone at wala man lamang messages doon. Should she text him? She brushed off the thought. Baka isipin pa nitong hinihintay niya ito buong gabi. Pinagpatuloy niya ang panonood. Then it was 10:30PM at wala pa ring Yego. She went to Instagram just to check his profile.

"That fucker!" she exclaimed ng makitang may IG story si Aries at nasa isang bar ito kasama si Yego at ibang mga babae. 

Galit na galit niyang hinanap ang contact number nito at tinawagan. He wasn't answering hanggang napunta na siya sa busy tone. She called again. Still no answer. She replayed Aries' story again at siguradong sigurado siya na si Yego ang lalaking nakaupo katabi nito at isa pang babae. The story says '1h ago'. 

Just then, narinig niyang may footsteps na papasok na sa kwarto. "The dumbass must be here." 

The bedroom door opened and in came Yego. Naka house slippers na ito pero suot suot pa rin ang suit. He walked in and smiled. "Hey, my wife!" 

Mukhang nakainom ito. Dali dali niya itong dinaluhan ng makitang pagewang-gewang sa paglalakad. She assisted him as he removed his coat and unbuttoned his white shirt.

"Saan kayo nanggaling?" galit na tanong niya sa lalaking naghuhubad ngayon sa harapan niya.

"Just had a business dinner."

"In a bar?"

He looked at her funnily. "Paano mo nalaman?"

"None of your business. So anong ginagawa niyo sa bar ni Aries?"

"Business dinner," he repeated. He was removing his pants now. At aktong hihiga na ito sa kama with just his boxers habang nagkalat sa sahig ang mga damit nito.

"Don't you sleep on me," pigil ni Sari dito.

"I'm tired, wife. Let me get some sleep," he said and tried to lie down again. 

"Fine, kapag natulog ka ngayon, lalayas ako dito. Kapag hindi mo sinagot ang tanong ko, aalis talaga ako!" pagbabanta niya.

 Mukha namang nahimasmasan ito at bumangon kaagad. "What do you want?"

"Where have you been? Gabing-gabi na, oh!" sigaw niya dito.

"I was in a business dinner. We're trying to close a deal with a potential investor," sagot nito.

"In a bar? On a weekday?" 

Tumango ito. 

She tried to smell his neck and hair. 

"What are you sniffing?" he asked her.

"Bakit amoy alak at babae ka?"

He looked at her funnily. "Are you jealous?"

Namula siya sa biglang tanong nito. "I'm not jealous. Ayoko lang na hihiga ka diyan sa kama na ganyan ang amoy mo. Besides, sa sahig ka di ba? Kaya huwag ka diyan!" 

"I'm tired, Sari. Please let me sleep on the bed for now," he said.

"No," she said firmly. 

He breathed deeply at saka kinuha ang foam sa closet. Hinila nito ang isang unan sa kama pababa sa foam sa sahig at doon humiga ngayon. 

She went back to sitting on the bed, still mad after seeing Aries' story. "Just to remind you, we had a deal. I'm only living here  for that deal, not because I want to be your wife."

"Yeah, I remember clearly," he said at pumikit na.

It was morning already. Nagising si Sari sa liwanag na pumapasok in between their now slightly-opened curtains. She sat up and glanced on the floor. Malinis na iyon at wala na si Yego.

Bumaba siya sa kitchen at nakitang nagluluto ito ng breakfast at bihis na kagad ito. 

"You're up early," she commented.

Tumango ito. "I have a business trip to Vietnam for four days. I'll be back in time for Atticus and Celine's wedding."

"Four days?" tanong nito. 

"Yup, we closed a deal successfully last night and we're off to Vietnam for the first phase of the project," balita nito.

"Congratulations," she said timidly. The thought of him being gone for four days is a bit disappointing for her. At ramdam pa rin niyang medyo cold ito after ng away nila kagabi. But he deserves it. Bakit kasi may katabi itong babae sa bar na iyon kagabi? Well, your marriage isn't exactly public, is it?  her mind mused.

"Thank you. I'll just see you on the wedding rehearsal the night before their wedding. Tawagan na lang kita as soon as I land in Vietnam." He put the bacon and hotdogs on a plate and handed it to her. "Kumain ka na. I'm late for my flight. Aalis na ako."

She accepted the plate and just stared at him habang isinusuot nito ang coat at hinila ang isang maliit na maleta.

"See you on Friday night," he said at lumabas na ng kitchen.

She breathed deeply. Does she miss him already? Lihim niyang pinagalitan ang sarili. She can't fall for a womanizer like him again. Never!
