---------------------------------------

I appeared in the middle of the street. I yelped as a car came towards me, and ran off the road. I had never tried to go to Paris without being called there first, so I was surprised this even worked.

I covered my mouth with my wrist, determined not to cry. I had just narrowly escaped death, but my teammates wouldn't know that. They probably assumed I was dead, which meant I couldn't go back home without explaining everything to them, and that was something I wasn't ready to do.

I tried to dodge people as they passed me on the sidewalk, but everyone was moving really fast in the opposite direction of me. Once I realized this, I looked up from the ground, and saw some kid floating in the sky, pointing a wand at people and gaining control over their actions. I groaned internally; my work as a hero never seemed to stop.

"Are you sure you're up for this?" Ripple asked as I ducked into an empty alleyway.

"I have to be," I answered. "Ripple, fins up!"

•••later•••

After the fight, I headed back to the same alleyway to detransform.

"Ripple, fins down," I sighed. I  sank down to the ground, my back against the wall. I buried my head in my hands, and started to cry. I must have stayed there for hours, but I could barely recognize the passage of time.

"Excuse me Miss, are you alright?"

I looked up to see an old man in a red vacation shirt offering me a tissue.

"Um, yeah," I said, rubbing the tears away. "I'm fine."

I glanced up at him with a small smile, wanting to assure him I was okay.

He gasped. "Gm/n?"

I tilted my head. "What?"

"Oh, I... my apologies. You look like someone I know."

"Gm/n is my grandmother," I said as he started to walk away.

He paused, then turned back around. "You're her descendant?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Either you look exactly like her, or my eyesight is getting worse," he laughed. "I see you've inherited her miraculous."

I reached up to touched my shell clip, surprised that he knew what it was. "Did you know her? My grandmother, I mean."

"Yes," he sighed. "A long time ago... before I left Ninjago."

My mouth dropped open. "You're from Ninjago?"

"I was born there, along with my two older brothers," the man smiled sadly. "They never knew I was a miraculous holder, so they must think I passed away long ago. Perhaps it was for the better; if I had stayed in Ninjago, they would each likely try to make me join their side... but that's a story for another day. So, tell me, how long have you been in Paris?"

"I, uh... I actually just got here. Well, I mean, I've been coming here occasionally to help with the akumas, but now I'm here to stay."

"Ah, so you're Dauphine Bleue. To be honest, I wasn't expecting you to be so young. How old are you, anyway?"

"I'm twe...fourteen," I lied. I was hoping he'd believe that I was the same age as Ladybug and Chat Noir. Two years difference wasn't that big of a deal, was it?

"Hmm..." the man said, likely skeptical of my answer. "Alright then. I'm assuming that you don't have any family here; am I correct?"

I nodded.

"I can offer you a place to stay, if you'd like."

"That would be wonderful!" I exclaimed, standing up. "Is there something I can do for you in return?"

"At the moment, there is nothing. I'm simply glad to help the granddaughter of my best friend."

"Thank you," I said gratefully. "I'm y/n, by the way."

"Pleased to meet you, y/n. You may call me Master Fu."
