A/n

Yo, so I won't be updating that frequently any more... I mean, I already started slacking, but still. Just a heads up.

Love you all!

Y/n's POV

I grabbed Carapace's hand and pulled him out of the way of the flames. We ducked behind a large stalagmite to avoid getting burnt, and waited for the dragon to calm down. I was breathing hard, terror rising within me. I was no stranger to creatures like these, but I had never met one so big before.

"When the dragon walks away, we make a break for the exit," I said, but then the beast's tail came swinging towards us. We ducked, and the spikes barely missed us.

The second time the tail came towards us, we jumped on top of it to avoid getting stabbed by the thorny tip. Before we were able to hop back down, the dragon raised his tail up high. I closed my eyes out of fear and tightened my grip.

The tail twisted as it rose, and left me and Carapace dangling, but I became very thankful for this once we came crashing through the roof of the cave. At first, I was confused on how the dragon managed to break through solid rock, but then I realized that dragons all have elements.

This one must have the power of earth, I thought. But then why was it able to breathe fire?

The stone ceiling crumbled, and the dragon flew out of its home, us still holding on tight to its tail. I started climbing up towards the beast's body as it flew through the sky, and Carapace followed close behind me. I eventually made it up onto its back, and crawled over to the back of its head. I figured I would be safer where the dragon's teeth couldn't reach.

"Now what?" Carapace asked once we were both holding onto the creature's neck.

"I think we should wait until it lands," I replied. "In the meantime, we should scan the area for our friends."

He nodded, then peered over to the right. I watched the left, praying that there would be a sign of life down on the desert ground. For a long while, there wasn't anything.

The sky started to get dark, but the sun hadn't gone down yet. A storm was about to start.

"Any chance use your power to make an umbrella?" I asked Carapace.

"Sorry, dudette. We've gotta save it until we really need it."

Suddenly the dragon's body started to vibrate. in confusion, I looked over at its wings, and noticed they were pulsing with electricity.

"Are you seeing this?" Carapace asked.

"Yeah," I said. "Since when could dragons have more than one element?"

"Hey, look!" Carapace shouted over the wind.

"What?" I asked, looking over his shoulder.

"See that big rock cluster?"

"Yeah, why?"

"There's smoke coming out through a gap at the top."

"Okay, why is that important?"

He turned around to look me in the eye.

"Oh," I realized. "Right. Fire."

"We need to jump," he said. "Shelter!"

After calling out his power, a green force field appeared around us.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Just trust me!"

He then pushed the sphere off the edge of the dragon, and we went plummeting through the air.

Oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh—I screamed internally. I braced for impact, and I kind of expected to die as soon as we hit the ground. Thankfully though, we were saved by the force field. Once it stopped bouncing, Carapace made it disappear, and I plopped onto the sand.

"I hope you know I'm never going to trust you again," I said, trying not to throw up. "You could have killed us!"

"Well, we're alive, aren't we?"

I couldn't argue with that.

We rushed over to the large rock formation, and started looking for a way in. There wasn't an opening anywhere, but the placement of a particular boulder looked as if it were acting as a door.

"Hey, guys?" I questioned, talking through a small gap. "Are you in there?"

"Y/n?" someone asked.

"Yes! It's me and Carapace! Come on, we're taking you home."
