44 - Mariposa

Bonjour! I'm back. I hope you're all staying safe and well!

I just spent the last fifteen minutes or so changing the names of all the chapters in this book... my mind feels like mush now. Anyway... I love you guys <3

————Marinette's POV————-

"I want to make things right," Gabriel said. "My son is all I have left, and I need to make it up to him."

I stared at him for a few moments, trying to decide if he was telling the truth or not. I wanted to believe that he truly wanted to make up for his mistakes, but part of me suspected that he just wanted the butterfly miraculous back for his own purposes.

"It's a good idea," I concluded, then I turned to Master Fu. I held out my hand, and he reluctantly gave me the miraculous.

"Are you sure we should give this to him?" he asked me.

"Oh, he won't be using it," I said, and I placed the pin on my shirt. I turned to Gabriel, silently asking what to do next; if he really wanted to help us, he'd tell me the phrase to activate the miraculous.

"Nooroo, darkwings rise," he muttered.

"Nooroo, darkwings rise!" I repeated.

A purple light engulfed me, and my outfit transformed into a butterfly themed suit. My weapon was some kind of cane.

"Mariposa," Chloé dubbed me.

"More like Mari-posa," Alya laughed. "I bet Chat would appreciate the pun."

The mention of his name made me sad; I never wanted to hurt Adrien, but I knew it was for the better if we didn't end up together. Besides, I had my suspicions that he had a bit of a crush on y/n, whether he knew it or not.

"Someone needs to be akumatized," I said.

I but my lip, waiting for someone to volunteer, but nobody stepped forward. I knew the miraculous holders wouldn't want to, considering being akumatized would probably bring back some bad memories. However, I was kind of expecting the ninja to be willing.

"I'll do it," Cole said.

I smiled weakly. "You ready?"

"As I'll ever be."

"Okay," I said, but then I realized I had no idea how to do this.

"Here," Gabriel said, placing a little white butterfly into my hands. "Cole, you must think of a negative emotion. An akuma will provide someone in need with powers; but you need to be vulnerable in order for that to be possible."

Cole nodded, and looked at the ground as he thought about something. I watched as his expression grew sad, then, with Gabriel's direction, I transformed the butterfly into an akuma. I sent the insect towards Cole, and it flew into his katana.

"I grant you the power to see those who are close to you, no matter how far away they are," I said.

Cole pulled his katana out from behind his back, and drew a circle with it into the dirt.

"Show me my friends in Etheria," he said.

The shape started to glow, and images formed inside of it, kind of like a crystal ball.

"Look! There's Kai and Zephyr," Jay observed, pointing to our friends as they ran through a wooded area. "And that's Entrapta over there... But what's Catra doing with them?"

"Yeah, and where are the others?" Nino asked.

"Maybe they got separated," Cole suggested, then got more specific. "Show me Lloyd."

The scene in the glowing circle shifted, and it focused on Lloyd, as well as y/n and Adrien. They were talking to someone who had a resemblance to Kai.

"Where are they?" Nuffink asked. "That doesn't look like Etheria—there's so many tall buildings."

"It's a city," I said. "But where?"

"What if they changed realms again?" Chloé suggested.

"But how?" Sensei Wu asked. "Y/n's miraculous is broken."

"Maybe not anymore," I said, kneeling down to look closer at the image. "She's got the shell clip in her hair."

"Would should we do?" Zane wondered, brushing his hand across the rippling substance. "If we don't know where they are, we can't be of much use to them."

"As much as I hate to admit this, I don't think we can do anything," Jay said sadly. "I don't want them to have to do this on their own, but I'm sure they can handle themselves. All we can really do is just wait for them to come back."
