Syris's P.O.V
I sigh as I finish signing the contract our neighboring pack gave us to join alliances with us.
I hear Parker's car drive up to the house. I get up from his seat and make my way to the door. I look at the time. 'I'll be back soon, faster than you know it.' He said. It's past four o'clock that bastard.
I jog downstairs and I'm met with the other guys watching TV, drinking beer and eating chips. "Guys they're back come on. Clean this up before Rosie and Parker come in." I tell them and take three beer bottles that were laying on the floor and quickly go throw them in the bin. "Oh yeah Rosie!" they remember and start hurrying up to clean the room.
The car parks in the garage.
I walk out the house to go meet them. Rosie is the first to come out and she is glowing with happiness. "Rosie!" I open my arms for her to come jump in. She doesn't hesitate and jumps right into my arms giggling happy. "Today was awesome! I had so much fun, I wish we could have stayed longer though." She shrugs and hugs me. "Is that right?" I chuckle and wait for Parker to come out of the car.
"Rosie!" Eden calls her happy. I drop Rosie and she goes running to Eden. "Eden!" she laughs hugging him. I smile turning to watch Parker come out of the car and walk towards us. I thought he'd be just as happy as Rosie but he wasn't. He had put on a blank face but I could see past it.
We lock eyes and I know he knows I know.
He walks past me and into the house. I follow behind him and into the house. "Guys there's some stuff in the car, unload it will you." I tell them. "Sure." I hear them say but my attention shifts back to Parker. He is walking to the kitchen sink to get a glass of water. I walk to the Medicine drawers and take out some pain killers. I slide the pill bottle towards him on the counter and he catches it with ease.
He takes out three tablets and drinks them down with water. He fills up another glass and drinks it. He slides the pill bottle back to me. I catch it and put them back in the drawer. "Enjoyed your day?" I ask folding my arms over my chest. He turns to look at me. "I shouldn't have been on my own with a child." He sighs tired. I try not to smile but I couldn't help myself. "You wanted to go on your own. You could have had Jordan go with you." I point out. He shakes his head smiling. "I really should have. Why didn't you advise me?" he groans.
"Am I your advisor now? Last time I checked I'm just the Beta." I shrug and look at the sitting room where the guys were busy laughing and talking over each other to Rosie. "Don't be like that. You're my best friend, Beta and advisor." Parker walks over to me to sling an arm over my shoulder. I slap it off. He chuckles and walks into the sitting room.
"Wow you guys really went all out." Frank points out looking at Rosie's new clothes. "Rosie picked everything." Parker sits down on the couch and leans back into it. I also walk to the couch and sit on it. "Cara and I love shopping!" Rosie says excited.
I tune everything out after that as I just watch the clothes being taken out to be put on display.
In my own world, I didn't hear my phone ringing.
"Syris!" George calls me and I snap out of it to look at him. "What?" I ask and then I heard it. "Oh." I chuckle, awkward, and take my phone out of my pocket. I look at the caller ID and saw that it was an unknown number. "I'll take this outside, you guys carry on." I get up from the sofa and make my way outside. I close the door behind me and take the call.
"Hello, Syris speaking." I say onto the phone and then I heard her.
I freeze up. "Syris." She sniffles. I don't say anything and walk further away from the house. I don't want them listening in on my phone call. "Tanya." I reply. She doesn't say anything and just continues crying. I wanted to sympathize with her but I shouldn't. "Tanya, if you're not going to say anything I have to go." I say getting tired of hearing her cry. It hurts me.
"I'm sorry, it's just that. My dad died." She says and my heart literally sank. Mr Piper died? But how? I saw him last month and he looked so alive and healthy. "I'm sorry to hear that." I say feeling really sad for her. I know how much Mr Piper meant to Tanya. He was so much more than a dad. He was the only family relative she had left.
"I'm at the hospital right now, I don't know. I don't know what to do." She sniffles. I sigh and pick up a rock that was in front of me. I start playing with it. "Have you tried calling your husband, Sam?" I ask, my heart hurting as I said it. 'Husband.'
"Um no, the first person that came to mind to call first was you." She says in a low voice.
"Mhn." I throw the rock at a tree. "Tanya I thought we agreed to stop talking to each other." I say and look up at the sky. The sun was setting, painting the sky a beautiful orange. "Syris- " "Tanya please stop calling me." I interrupt her not wanting to hear more.
"Just stop calling me." I drop the call.
I block her number from my phone and shove my phone in my pocket. What a mess. Such a mess. I sigh heavily and rub my face to get the color back to it.
"Who was it?" Parker says, shocking me for a second. I turn around to look at him. Judging from the look on his face he already knew who it was. I mean, he's been standing there long enough.
"Tanya Summers." I say and look anywhere but his face. "Her dad passed away. The first person she thought to call was me." I gulp forcing myself to look at him. "She told me she didn't know what to do. So I told her to call her husband Sam, he might know what to do. After all, it's a family crisis. I have no right to be there." I scratch an itch on my neck.
Parker just nods. "You made the right choice." He smiles and pulls me close to him. He slings an arm over my shoulder. "Once Rosie falls asleep want to have a drink with me and the guys later?" he asks smiling.
I smile, "Will you survive the night?" I ask remembering he has a condition. "Don't worry about me man, I can take care of myself." He sighs and let's go of me to stand up properly. "Besides, I barely sleep. I need something to wear me out without the pain." He chuckles and scratches his neck. I don't say anything and just watch him.
