I flip the pancakes and turn off the stove.
"Are you guys going to stand there or eat the breakfast I prepared for you?" I ask as I turn around to look at my eight house mates. Syris is looking at me shocked while the others are staring at Rosie. "We are going to eat the breakfast." Syris smiles at me and takes a seat. The others take a seat as well.
"I'm surprised you made us breakfast. You haven't made us breakfast in three years." Syris chuckles digging in to the food already there. I place the plate of pancakes on the table and go sit on the far end of the table and across me quietly eating her food and chewing mouth closed is Rosie. She doesn't seem bothered by their stares. But I am.
"Stop staring." I order them annoyed.
They all look at me shocked for a while but they stop staring at Rosie and focus on the food in front of them. We all eat our food in silence.
After a while Syris starts talking. "Since nobody is willing to address the elephant in the room, I will." He finishes chewing and sits up straighter. "Who is she?" he looks at me serious.
I finish chewing on the bacon that was in my mouth. "Her name is Rosie." I answer and put a chunk of a pancake in my mouth. "Where did you get her?" he asks. "I found her last night in the woods while I was running." I cover my mouth as I chew while talking.
"You found her?" he gives me a look.
"Yes I found her." I confirm.
"And you brought her here? Why would you bring a random little girl you found in the woods to the pack house? Parker I'm being serious, who is she?" Syris frowns at me. I stop eating to give him a look. "I told you who she is Syris. What more do you want from me?" I watch him. Syris knows me too well.
"To tell me why you would bring a little girl you found in the woods to the pack house. Who is she to you? Because the only excuse I'm willing to accept from you is that she's related to you somehow. Other than that you have to give me a proper-"
"Damn it Syris what is your deal!" I frown at him.
"My deal is that I am the Beta of the pack and you just brought a random little girl you found in the woods to the house. Aren't you a little bit suspicious that she might be a spy from a neighboring pack? Parker we are still recovering." He looks at me worried.
I sigh setting my food utensils down. I rub my forehead. I look at him and the rest of the gang sitting there watching me. I then look towards Rosie who is still eating her food, looking down at her plate. I look back to Syris.
"She was given to me by a woman named Cara." I start off and clear my throat.
"She told me that I have to take in Rosie and protect her. I know it sounds mad but that's what happened. When I tried to stop her she just vanished but she had already left behind Rosie." I look back to Rosie and see she is watching me her eyes wide. She wasn't shocked by this by she genuinely has big eyes. I force myself to look away from her and back to the others.
Syris is watching Rosie, sizing her up.
"She doesn't seem to need protecting though. She radiates strength that seems to surpass yours while resting." He points out. He then looks at me. "I don't think we should trust her and this Cara woman. This is just too suspicious." Syris shakes his head. "Syris." I call him. He looks at me. "It's okay. I know this is weird but I too have a feeling that I should be protecting her." I tell him.
"Rosie, as you can tell, is different. She's special." I look at Rosie. She is still watching me not saying anything. "And I have every intention of protecting her from whatever it is she needs protecting from. Can you just accept it?" I look back to Syris. We stare each other off.
"Yes, you haven't given me any reason to doubt your leadership and decisions so why should I doubt it now." He gives me a small smile. "But if all this turns sour, I'm holding you accountable for it." He says and continues eating his food. I pick up my eating utensils and nod. "I am Alpha after all." I take a bite of my food. "Yes, you are." He chuckles and stuffs more food in his mouth.
"Good. Now about yesterday's emergency call." I start off.
"This is the best pancake I've ever tasted in my life!" Malcolm says trying to distract me. "Yeah did the previous Luna teach you how to cook so well?" Jordan asks sitting opposite Malcolm. "No, Parker just has a knack for cooking. It's his other given talent." Eden sitting next to Malcolm says chuckling.
I don't stop their conversation and just smile at them.
"I hope you guys know that you are just avoiding the inevitable. I'm still yet to address the issue of your lack of tracking skills." I pour myself a glass of apple juice and take a sip.
I hear them groan. I smirk at this.
"May I have a glass of apple juice." Rosie says from the far end of the table. Everyone stops what they are doing to look at her. She then widens her eyes even more and kind off shrinks back in her seat getting shy. "Please." She adds.
"Isn't she the cutest thing alive!" Frank, who is sitting next to her coo's. "She even said please." Henry points out leaning closer towards her. "How cute is that? I mean who still says please?" George says poking Syris on the side. "Pass the jug dude." He says to him. Syris glares at him but still passes the jug. "Not you." He says. George takes the jug and passes it to Frank.
"There you go little lady." He pours her half a glass of apple juice.
Rosie takes the glass eagerly. "Thank you." She beams. "My cuteness radar just went on overload." Cameron playfully punches Eden. "You have a cuteness radar?" Eden asks him shocked. "Yeah, I like cute things like those little rabbits from the pet store." He says.
"You guys visit pet stores?" I ask them shocked. "Yeah when we have free time." Cameron looks at me. "When you guys have time? When we have so many stuff to fix around the pack house you guys have time to visit pet stores and pet rabbits?" I nod. "Then I guess I should give you more stuff to keep you busy around the pack house." I shove more food in my mouth. "Like the drains in the old Omega cabins. They need taking care off but since you guys have so much free time, why don't guys attend to that." I swallow my food.
"Then I'll assign you something else after you're done." I smile when they all look so sad. "It's a beautiful morning isn't it Rosie?" I lean forward to look at her more closely. She giggles and nods. "The birds are up and singing, the sun is shining bringing warmth to the earth and the air is clean. It's a nice morning." She says. "Right? I think so myself." I laugh enjoying their misery.
