ALARMING

"Parker!" I hear Rosie's sweet voice chime.

I smile in response. "Rosie!" I sing along as well and watch as she runs towards me. I bend down to her height and wait for her to reach me.

We both collide and fall to the ground.

She giggles on top of me. "Rosie be careful." I hear Syris say from behind. I sit up with Rosie in my arms. "Sorry Parker." She hugs me tightly. "It's okay Rosie. Good morning." I chuckle and stand up, carrying Rosie in my arms. "Morning!" she replies happy.

I walk towards Syris. "Syris." I greet him adding a little nod. He leans on the wall and fold his arms over his chest. "Parker." He gives me a nod. "Where are the others?" I ask walking around to the kitchen to go check on the others if they are awake or not. They better be awake for their own safety.

"They already left for the shops. They're standing in the line waiting for their turn." Rosie says in a 'matter of fact' tone. "Oh?" I look to Syris and see him watching Rosie with a blank look. "They went to the shops a few minutes ago to go buy us some stuff. What they are doing right now, I was unaware of." He says and his gaze shifts to me.

"I can tell where they are, what they doing and who is doing what if you want." Rosie looks up at me with wide eyes smiling. It takes me a while to fully comprehend what she just said. "That's okay Rosie." I decline her offer. "So uh Rosie, how exactly are you able to tell where they are, what they are doing and who's doing or saying what?" Syris asks her taking a step forward with a smile trying to act casual about what he just heard.

I look at Rosie. I'm interested to know as to how she is able to do that. "You see how you guys have mind links and are able to communicate with each other?" she says slowly, trying to find words that best fit for what she is trying to explain. "Yes." I respond and set her down so she can speak more boldly.

"It's exactly what I can do but on a larger scale?" she chews on her bottom lips thinking hard. "I don't know how to explain properly. I didn't pay much attention to Ms Manny when she was teaching me back home." She shrugs and starts swaying side to side. "Ms Manny?" I ask her kneeling down on one knee to look at her in the face. She nods. "Yes. Ms Manny. But I didn't like her very much. She was always serious and didn't like having fun." She frowns.

"Which pack are you from Rosie?" I ask her, even though I slightly know the answer to that. "What are you talking about, I don't belong to a pack." She says and falls forward, laying her head on my shoulder. I hold her by her shoulders and hoist her back up.

"What do you mean you don't belong to a pack? Everyone belongs to a pack." Syris says. I nod, agreeing with Syris. "Yes, everybody belongs somewhere. Where do you belong?" I look into her big eyes.

She doesn't seem to understand what it is we are talking about. "What are the both of you talking about? What is a pack?" she asks me. I could tell she was getting a bit irritated.

I look to Syris and see he had the exact same look as me.

I look back to Rosie and see she is watching the both of us. "Where exactly is your home Rosie." I ask her, hoping she doesn't say what it is I don't what her to say. "In the Vernand Isles." She says blandly. "I'm sorry the what?" Syris stands next to me looking at Rosie. I try not to give a relieved sigh. She's not a rogue, that's awesome.

"The Vernand Isles." She repeats and starts fidgeting. "Hmm, can we stop talking about this now I'm hungry." She says. I let go of her and stand up. "Parker can we talk?" Syris nudges me with his elbow. "No, I'm hungry. Can you talk later?" Rosie widens both her eyes at me and at Syris. "Yeah sure." He relents and smiles at her. "Come on. Let's go and make us some breakfast." He starts leading Rosie in the direction of the kitchen.

'Parker this is getting weird. I don't like this one bit.' Syris says to me through mind link.

'It's probably nothing. I'll just quickly try and do some research on the Vernand Isles and see exactly where it is. There's no need to panic.' I say trying to calm him down.

'That's not what I'm worried about.' He pauses. 'She is able to find exactly where we are and what we are doing. Isn't that alarming to you?' he adds.

'It is. It is very alarming.' I reply and cut the mind link as I hear a car drive up the drive way.

"They're back!" Rosie squeals and comes back running towards the door. She tries to open the door herself but couldn't. I smile watching her try to reach the door handle but she is too short. "Rosie it's okay, I'll- "but stop when the door handle turns by itself and opens. "I got it." She says and pulls the door open and runs outside to go greet those 4 idiots.

I'm left standing there trying to wrap my mind around what it is I just witnessed. "Parker you okay?" Syris walks in and stands next to me. I blink and turn to look at him with a blank look. "Yeah, I'm just ready to go do my research on the Vernand Isles." I say and walk past him up to the stairs. "Okay, once I'm done here I'll come help you, alright." He says and walks back to the kitchen.

I reach my office. I make my way to the shelve of history books my dad brought in years ago when I was still a kid.

'These books are really important Parker.' I remember dad's voice ring in my ear.

I take out the first book of the set of 6 books lined up on the first shelve. I walk to my seat and sit down.

I open the book and start reading.
