"I'm sorry for not visiting you all these years, Mother," Alida said with a soft tone, placing the bouquet of flowers beside the tombstone.
She kneeled down and slightly stroked the tombstone. Her body trembled and I heard sobs coming from her. I slowly walked towards her, kneeling beside her. I tried to soothe her by placing my hand on her upper arm and rubbed against it.
"I'm here, don't worry." I laid my head on hers, remaining at her side.
Few minutes passed and Alida started to calm down. She then stood up, still staring at the tombstone with pained eyes. I looked back to the tombstone, making me remember my own mother. I can feel what she has gone through.
"I'm very sorry for your loss, Alida" I stood back up and held her hand.
She paused for a moment, tightening her grip on my hand. Tears dripping one by one down her cheeks. I went in front of her and wiped her tears with my free hand.
Alida POV
I sobbed for a few more times as Ravus wiped off the tears from my face.
"Feel better? Or should I let you be?" He affectionately caressed my cheek
I nodded, signaling that I'm alright. I gazed back at my mother's tombstone.
"I never got to see her face, let alone have memories of her. I only get to see her through some photos of her." I whimpered
I paused for a few seconds, gasping for air. Ravus' hand moved to my back, patting it. I turned to look at him, his face full of sorrow.
"She passed away when she gave birth to me...She developed a sickness when I was still in her womb. Her body was weak, unable to hold on, a few minutes after I was born, she had already lost her life " I explained it with a cracked voice.
My heart stopped, full of guilt and sadness. My stomach ruled by pain, making me a bit nauseous.
"Every time I see her tombstone, a huge sense of guilt flows through me. I just can't shake the feeling off my chest. It feels as if....I'm....I'm the reason mother can't live happily with my brother and father. If only I was never born, mother would have been alive here." as I tried to hold myself from vomiting, tears flowed through my wet cheeks.
I crossed my arms, my body shaking. My legs were about to give up when Ravus held me by the waist. He held me closer, trying to help me balance myself. Ravus lifted up my chin with his other hand, our eyes locked. I was astonished when Ravus shed a tear from his left eye. It's unusual to see him like this.
"Alida, if you were never born.......how can I be who I am now?" Ravus cupped my face in his hands, looking desperate.
"But, how can I live on knowing I was the one who unpurposely killed my mother?" I hold his hands, shivering from the breakdown.
"Then why did she decide to bring you into the world? Why let her life end to give birth to a new life which is you?" He raised his voice a little, with such a painful look.
I stared back at him, he took hold of my hands and placed them in front of me. As the evening sky glowed orange, we stood still there, amongst the field of Lilac Flowers.
"She wants you to live your own life, even if it costs her own. That's a mother's love, Alida. Because I knew it from my own mother who raised me and Luna" He said with a loving tone, softening his voice.
