kim taehyung;

seventy two. it has been seventy two hours since i talked to jinnie. it has been ninety six hours since i saw him smile and hundred hours since i woke up in his bed. "taehyung-", my psychology teacher spoke. "it would be kind if you respected my time and paid attention", she snarled. i run my hands through my long curly hair, "i am sorry, miss. i promise i won't repeat", i speak. she nodded, "alright. now please explain three ways to understand human behavior", she spoke. i nod, "human behavior can be explained by three key factors; investment, social influence and justification. people behave a certain way because of the above three factors.", i say out aloud. the teacher smiled, "very good taehyung. would you mind elaborating your ideas to the class", she asked. i nod eagerly. i have always shown a keen interest in psychology but in the past few days i have been able to better understand the subject.

"investment", i begin. "we all behave a certain way because we want something in return. when a person is at the cinema he could be there because, he is a critique and watching the movie is a part of his job, he could be on a date with his girl friend or he could be there with his friends. he is there to make an investment. the reward could be completing his job, stealing a kiss from his girl friend or just simply fun with his friends," i state. i recall cuddling seokjin. why did i do that. perhaps to feel the blood rush to my cheeks. euphoric.

"social influence", i state the second point. "his desire to the movies is also driven by social influence. completing his tasks at work successfully puts him at good relations with his boss. spending more time with his girl friend helps him build a stronger connection with her. having fun with his friends makes him more likable", i speak. i remember helping robin. did i behave like that because i wanted to be likable.

"justification", i speak again. "this is a little different. sometimes we do not behave as one may expect. behavior that can not be justified by investment or social influence is justified by justification. why do we pray. it is not an investment nor a social influence. it is a  justification. a justification to our actions and believes", i state. all eyes are focused on me all except two. i watch the students nod their heads. my eyes meet seokjin whose gaze was fixated on a blank paper on his table. "but sometimes our justifications contradict our investments and our social influence. that is the state of dilemma. suppose, your friend is caught consuming drugs. although you want to stay with him and help him. you want to invest in him. but you are afraid that he would drag you down along with him. you justify that it is impossible for one to get rid of the nasty habit. you don't want to be associated with a drug addict. what do you do then", i ask. "there is no sure answer. each one of us may behave differently. it doesn't matter what you choose there is always going to be guilt but you have to learn to overcome that. most of the times it could be by forgiving both yourself and the other person", i complete, staring at seokjin.

the teacher smiled, "very good taehyung. is there someone who would like to object" she asked. seokjin stood up, "i would", he spoke. the teacher nodded, "please do", she encouraged. seokjin walked to the front of the class and began talking avoiding my gaze. "i think justifications are linked to  investments and social influences" seokjin spoke. "human consciousness and culture is greatly impacted by social influence. one doesn't wanted to be associated with a drug addict due to the frame society has built. one's investments are built on his beliefs. inner conflict only arises when you do are not able to justify your actions. i believe it is necessary to listen to your conscience. you need to listen to yourself to avoid conflict." seokjin stated and then sat down. the teacher smiled, "i am very impressed by both the ideas. it is very nice to know that young gentlemen like you have such thoughts. there is no wrong or right. i hope we can have more discussion as such in the future. class dismissed", the teacher smiled.
