It's been a little over a month now, it is officially February 14th. Valentine's Day. Isla has become pretty close to Rosalie. Edward has found out that Isla is his great-great niece. His sister had given birth five months before the influenza. He told Isla that they were distant cousins so that he wouldn't give anything away.
Isla didn't suspect their cold skin due to it being winter, which all the Cullens - most of all, Jasper - are relieved about. Jasper has been building his control while being alone with Isla over the last month. Carlisle's next task is for him to be around Isla with the coven there, with their emotions, that honestly terrifies the empath to a core.
Isla goes into the front room and sees Rosalie petting a happy Ronny. Rose looks up and she grins.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Isla," Rosalie coos. "Jasper is coming over to talk. I'll take Ronny out back when he gets here."
"Will he be hungry?" Isla asks. "Are you hungry?"
"I ate before I came, and Jas probably has, too," Rosalie replies as Jasper pulls up. "I'll take him outside."
Isla opens the door when Jasper knocks. He holds out a red rose and it has a note. Isla takes the flower as Jasper enters the house slowly. Isla reads the note.Darlin',
May I take you on a romantic picnic this evening?
Jasper.Isla looks up from the note, and finds Jasper already looking at her. "Are you serious? Are you asking me out on a date on Valentine's Day?" She suddenly thinks of something and she narrows her blue eyes, confusing Jasper. "Is this why you have been blocking your thoughts from both me and Edward?"
Jasper smirks lightly. "It might be the reason, ma'am."
"Where is this picnic going to take place?" Isla asks. "If I say yes."
"If you say yes," Jasper muses, "there is a clearing a few miles into the woods behind my place I might have already set up."
"So you know I'd say yes?" Isla asks with a grin.
"Well, no," Jasper admits, Alice said nothing. "I just knew you wouldn't be able to resist my southern charm by bringing you a flower. Your favorite." He broke and asked her aunt Anne Lahote from the Quiluete reservation what she liked. "And I made you some chicken parm."
Isla touches Jasper's arm and he stays relaxed, trying not to tense. "I'd love to go on a picnic with you. Shall I get dressed?"
"I'll go talk to Rosalie about bringing Ronny to the house so Emmett can play with him again," Jasper says. "He is like a child."
"I'm just glad I'm more in control with my telepathy so that I don't have to focus on his mind anymore," Isla mutters. "I'll be right back."
Isla heads back to her room as Jasper goes outside to see if Rosalie heard and if she'd ease Emmett's mind by bringing Ronny over there. Isla dresses in a light pink dress with half sleeves, a denim jacket, her brown winder boots, and she curls her blonde hair and applied a light amount of makeup.
She heads downstairs when she's dressed and she finds Jasper waiting patiently on her couch, Rosalie is gone wirh Ronny. Jasper stands and he holds out his hand. Isla grins and she slips her hand into his and Jasper leads her out to his Nissan. He even opens the door for her and closes it, as well. Jasper jogs around the car in a human speed and he drives across town.
Jasper brings her straight to the picnic sight, promising her to show her the house when they were finished and to introduce her to Esme; Esme is still beyond thrilled to finally meet Jasper's blood singer, the one to help Jasper feel less lonely and more alive.
There is a bright red picnic blanket spread across the snow covered grass, it had snowed the day before. There are candles lining to make a heart on the blanket and she even sees a gift box on one of the corners. The picnic basket is black with red and pink hearts all over it.
Jasper takes Isla by the hand and he leads her in for her center of the heart, and they sit on either side of the picnic basket Esme and Alice has put together. Jasper opens the top and pulls out two bowls of chicken Parmesan, he will be sick and feed a lot but Isla... she's worth everything, so he is willing to eat to appease her and not make her suspicious.
"This has been the best Valentine's Day ever, Jasper," Isla says wirh a smile. "Beautiful setup. Thank Alice for me."
Jasper chuckles. "I set it up myself. Alice and Esme our the basket together. I promise, darlin'. I did the romantic date on my own..." he pauses. "With some help form your aunt Anne, who was beyond willing to come over last night to help set the blanket and candles up. I lit them before picking you up."
"Of course," Isla smiles. "My aunt has always wanted me to meet someone who didn't think I was a freak."
"Darlin', you are far from a freak," Jasper says. "Let's eat. Esme wants to meet you."
Jasper walks Isla back to the house after giving her the gift he got for her. It was a pink heart on a silver chain, it was a fairly expensive necklace but as Jasper told Emmett and Esme, Isla was worth every sent he spent.
Jasper opens the door and Isla is engulfed in a hug. Jasper flinches at the sudden flash but he sees Esme hugging Isla, and he shakes his head as Carlisle comes walking down the stairs with an amused grin.
"She took off running as soon as she saw you two emerge from the woods," Carlisle chuckles. "Esme, let the girl breath do she can at least say hello."
"Sorry," Esme smiles as she lets go. "You must be Isla."
"I certainly hope I am," Isla replies with an amused grin. "If I wasn't, you just hugged the wrong girl."
Esme smiles. "I'm Esme, Jasper's mother." Her cold hand touches the necklace. "This is beautiful."
"It is," Isla says and she glances at Jasper slightly over her shoulder. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Jasper replies. "This is Carlisle, my father."
"I know who he is," Isla replies. "He was my doctor when I had my panic attack at thirteen."
"Only then, she was patient 1223," Carlisle frowns. "That mental hospital didn't let the patients keep their given names."
When Jasper feels Isla getting sad with the memories, he extends his house. "Let me give you a tour."
Isla takes Jasper's hand and he leads her up the stairs. Emmett is sitting on ten couch with Ronny, who's snout is laying on his lap. The dog is passed out while Emmett talks to Rosalie about god knows what. Jasper nods in greeting to Emmett before he and Isla step our onto the balcony outside the kitchen.
Isla looks up at the night sky. She and Jasper had stayed in the clearing until the moon risen. A waning creasent.
"A waning crescent," Isla smiles as Jasper's hand rests on the small of her back. "It is such a beautiful night."
Isla turns to look at a quiet Jasper and finds that instead of being fascinated by the moon, he is fascinated on her. Jasper uses a cold finger to lift Isla's face up as he steps closer. The blood hits him but he ignores it as he looks at Isla's light pink lips. He looks into her eyes, and she nods - saying he's okay.
Jasper licks his lips and he closes the distance, capturing Isla's lips with hai own. Jasper makes a growling type noise in the back of his throat as the aroma of Isla's blood fills his nose as his arm wraps around her back and he pulls her against him.
Rosalie sees as she goes to bring Carlisle the paper and she grins like a madwoman. Emmett carefully moves Ronny when he sees his wife's grin and he joins her, seeing Jasper and Isla kissing.
"Come on, Rose, give them privacy," Emmett urges. "Jasper is finally able to be that close to her. He needs some time alone with her."
Jasper finally pulls away and he releases a breath. "I... wow."
"That's a good wow, I hope," Isla pants. "Thay was amazing."
"All good, I promise," Jasper replies and he kisses her again.
Unable to get enough!
