Chapter 37

Isla and Emmett Shane several feet apart near Bella's house one night, as still as stone statues, as Isla called it when they first stared their shift of patrolling Bella Swan, much to Isla and Rosalie's dismay.

The spin quickly when they hear something, Jared and Paul leave the trees, ready to take their turns. Isla walks up to Paul and touches his snout.

"Hey, cousin," Isla greets.

"That's Paul?" Emmett asks amd Isla nods. "Hey, man."

Paul huffs and the vampire flees; they have a truce, the wolves cross to help patrol around Bella's house in case a newborn comes after her or Charlie during the night while Bella's here or Charlie is alone. Isla gets it, she likes Charlie. But not Bella. Bella lost Isla's recepct and approval when she decided she wanted to be a vampire. Isla let Edward know it, too.

'She doesn't she not know you're her actual brother?' Jared asks when the Cullens are gone, and out of hearing and mind reading rage. 'That your dad...'

'No,' Paul mind-links back. 'She doesn't k ow I'm her biological brother.'

"I do now," Isla says as she reappears. "I came back to check something but heard your thoughts." Isla looks at soul, who's looking down as Jared takes watch first. "Why didn't you tell me you're my brother, not my cousin?"

'I was scared,' Paul admits. :Mom dumped dsd because of it. Dsd was a child abuser. Be glad you know Peter Morrison as a father because your birth father, Rodney Lahote,is a deadbeat, abusive asshole and I'd have killed him if he touched you.'

Isla hugs her brother. "I love you, brother," she mutters and she vanishes.

Isla watches as Carlisle wraps Bella's hand, setting it in a splint.

"It's just a small fracture," Carlisle explains to a concerned Edward. "You're all set, Bella."

Jasper goes straight to Isla when he and emmett blur into the room. Jasper kisses his wife affectionately, making Bella smile slightly at their love.

Emmett looks at her arm. "Trying to walk and chew gum at the same time again, Bella?"

"Punched a werewolf in the face," Bella replies.

"Badass," Emmett muses, impressed. "You're gonna he one tough ass little newborn."

"Tough enough to take you on."

Isla growls sharply and she flashes away as Rosalie slams the paper down and goes outside. Isla doesn't stop until she is at a tree right on the Cullen side of the treaty. She sits on top of it as Sam's human form appears.

"Hey," Sam greets. "You look stressed."

"Bella wanting to be a vampire issues, and I can't be near her at the moment," Isla replies. "Did you know?"

Sam's face twists in confusion. "Did I know what, Isla?"

"That Rodney Uley knocked my mom up and made me," Isla replies. "Paul told me that he's my brother."

"Huh," Sam hums in shock. "No, I didn't know that."

"I better get back," Isla says.

"Stay," Sam offers. "I could use someone outside the pack to talk to. They're annoying as hell."

"I believe you there," Isla chuckles. "Alright, I'll stay. Let's talk some, Samuel Uley."

"It's Sam," Sam corrects. "Not Sammy, not Samuel. Sam."

Isla solutes the wolf alpha, and Sam laughs.
