Chapter 19

Jasper and Isla left before the test of thrm and went to Denali. They find Laurent there wirh his mate, Irina. He smiles fondly at Isla but frowns when he sees her red eyes and he looks at Jasper.

"Who did this?" He asks, Laurent's French accent heavy.

"Victoria," Jasper replies. "At prom... because James liked her."

"Victoria..." Laurent says her name in disgust. "... turned her out of jealousy?" Laurent shakes his head and sighs. "That does not surprise me."

"Jasper," Eleazar says as he walks into the room. "Oh, who's the lovely telepath?"

"Eleazar, this is my mate, Isla Masen Cullen," Jasper introduces. "She's a newborn and needs help adjusting. Isla, this is Eleazar, he can see abilities. This is Tanya, Kate, Irina, and Carmen. Carmen is Eleazar's mate and Irina is apparently with Laurent."

Isla inhales and sighs in relief. "Hi."

"Are the others still coming?" Tanya asks as Irina and Kate bring Isla to the hunt as Laurent reads, he plans on going on a long hunt and he plans to go back to Forks. "Carlisle called when you and Isla left."

"Kate," Isla speaks after feeding from an elk. "What's your ability?"

"Electrokinesis," Kate replies. "I can electrocute people."

"Awesome," Isla grins. "I simply read minds. It sucks when it's Emmett's."

"I don't want to know," Irina muses. "Emmett's something."

"Can you tell me about you guys?" Isla asks.

"What do you want to know?" Irina asks genuinely as they sit on a rock in the woods of Alaska.

"Where's Isla?" Carlisle asls as he and the others arrive to Alaska.

"Out with Kate and Irina," Tanya replies. "Eleazar went to see them, Laurent just left."

"How's she doing?" Esme asks in a maternal voice.

"She's... as good as a newborn can be," Tanya replies. "She feels terrible for what happened back in Forks."

Esme frowns. "That was also her birthday... September the 13th."

"How old would she have been?" Tanya asks wirh a smile as she and Esme sit.

"Nineteen," Esme replies. "She was turned agaisnt her will at eighteen, poor girl."

"We will help her," Tanya assures both Esme and Jasper. "She'll be okay here."

"Whoa!" Isla cheers as she rushes in. "I win!"

"That's not fair!" Irina exclaims. "You took a head start."

"No, you can ask Kate," Isla says energetically. "I won. I'm fast."

Kate sees Irina's eager gaze as she looks over. "She's right, Rina. She won, fair and square."

"What's going on?" Tanya asks as Eleazar comes in laughing.

"Isla, Kate, and Irina wanted to race back," Eleazar replies. "They spent time talking of our coven. It's nice someone is still so eager to learn about history."

"Carlisle," Esme says in an accusing tone suddenly. "You never told her about the Volturi."

Carlisle grimaces. "Sorry."

"I'll explain them to her when she cools off," Eleazar says as he watches Isla engross in a conversation with Irina by the door. "She's too energized right now to listen to a word." He smiles. "Oh, to be a newborn again. That energy doesn't stay around forever, unfortunately."

Isla walks outside and watches as her skin sparkles in the sunlight and she looks around, venom in her eyes. She's not as happy on the inside. She's aware Jasper knows, but she doesn't want the others to know she isn't really happy.

"Are you alright?" Eleazar asks as he steps out beside her.

Isla sighs, she doesn't want to lie to the vampire. "Honestly? No. I'm not ok, I'm far from it."

"It's okay not to be okay sometimes," Eleazar says in a genuine and gentle voice. "You're a newborn and was turned against your will... did you want to become a vampire anytime in the future?"

Venom fills Isla's eyes as she shakes her head. "No, I didn't want to become a vampire. I love Jasper: I see Carlisle and Esme as my parents; Rosalie and Alice are my sisters; Emmett's my big brother and best friend; but I'm like Rosalie... Becoming a vampire shouldn't be a choice. I'm sorry if it was yours but..." she stops herself and frowns. "I'm ranting. I'm sorry."

"It's quite alright," Eleazar replies with a smile. "Edward won't be joining us."

Isla furrows her brows as she looks at the vampire. "Why not?"

"Said he wanted to be alone," Eleazar replies.

Isla suddenly feels guilty. "He blames he, doesn't he? For having to leave?"

"No, no, and even if he does, he is incorrect," Eleazar says as the Cullens and Denali coven listen. "It is not your fault. You're a newborn. The lack of control right now is very, very normal. And Jasper is still new to the diet, he hadn't been around fresh blood in..."

"Fifty years or so," Isla muses and jasper shakes his head in amusement. "I know."

"I doubt Edward blames you, though," Eleazar replies and he sighs. "I'm going in. Come to my study later. I'll tell you about the Volturi and about my stint with them."

"Alright," Isla says. "Thank you for the talk, Eleazar. I'll find you later whe the sun sets. Iwant to enjoy this. Or try to."

Eleazar squeezes Isla's bicep before he heads inside. "She isn't okay, guys," he tells the ones listening. "She blames herself because she thinks Edward does... she thinks that's why he went off alone."

Jasper frowns as he watches Emmett go out and challenges Isla to some strength challenges. Isla then grew excited and Tanya goes out to help set everything up.
