Chapter 24

November. It's a fall month and the leaves are changing color and falling. This is why the fall is Isla's favorite month. Though when Kate raked the leaves into piles, Isla thinks of the dogs she put up for adoption before leaving, Rosa and Ronny. She missed them but she knows they're probably happy dogs.

Isla and Rosalie spent the first week of November shopping outside of Denali with Carmen. Isla wore brown contacts to hide the crimson.

Jasper paces the beach as Alice explains the plan. Jasper is planning on proposing to Isla the following day, December 1, 2005. He's nervous. He has never loved someone as much as he loved Isla.

"It'll be so romantic!" Alice squeals. "I already know what she says but I won't tell you. It will be a surprise."

Jasper sighs and he nods. "I didn't think you would. I got Carlisle's permission since she has taken role as Isla's father."

"That is so sweet!" Alice chirps.

"Eleazar, are we still hunting in the northern part of Denali today?" Isla asks; they usually hunt out near the beach but Eleazar has changed it. "Why the change in location?"

"For a different variety of animals," Eleazar lies easily as he ties his shoes and grabs a jacket. "Let's go, shall we?"

Isla nods and she grabs a jacket. It's in case they run into hunters and had to keep up. Isla bolts into the trees in the direction she and Eleazar are taking today for some reason. She doesn't buy the animal variety excuse Eleazar fed her, they could go anywhere int he woods for a bigger animal variety, they could leave Denali.

"We'll start out here and go east," Eleazar says. "There is a lot of deer and bear between here and there."

Isla nods in agreement, she doesn't argue because her throat has been scratchy for the past hour and is in need for a good hunt. Isla smells the blood of a bear and she takes off in a flash while Eleazar follows. He watches as Isla catches a grizzly and drains it. Eleazar goes and gets himself a dear and they begin slowly heading east, looking for different animals besides deer and bear.

Rosalie and Kate bring a lot of candles down to the beach and shape them into the lines on a heart monitor, trying to say when Jasper met Isla, she brought him back to life. He watches as Rosalie and Kate set it up. Alice is off and getting the ring she saw in her vision. The ring he wishes to give to Isla during the proposal tomorrow.

Alice suddenly appears beside him with a small grin as she hands Jasper the ring box. Jasper pops it open and the diamond shines in the sun. He wanted a diamond ring for Isla because of when she called him a diamond when she first saw his skin in the sunlight that one morning. 

"It's even more perfect in person," Alice says softly. "Isla will love it, Jas. You're doing good. We are all so proud of you."

"She's right," Esme coos as she flashes over, and looks at the ring. "I couldn't have asked for a better woman for you, Jasper. Isla is perfect for you, and a perfect fit to this family. Are you ready to ask her to be Isla Sofia Masen Hale?"

Jasper smiles and he nods. "Yes, I am. I'm also nervous."

"And you have every right to be, it's your first proposal," Esme coos as Alice goes to show the ring to Kate, Irina, Carmen, Tanya, and Rosalie. "But you know how much Isla loves you and how much you love her. She would be either stupid or not worthy to say no, but I know she won't say no. Because Isla is worthy, she's a Cullen, and she was a Masen first. She's passionate, family oriented, and she puts up with Emmett."

"Hey!" Emmett exclaims from the furthest side of the beach. "Not funny!" 

"It's true," Jasper shrugs. "Isla has to be pretty patient to put up with you. Remember when she first started and had to focus on you thoughts?"

"Right," Emmett smirks. "Okay, it makes her worthy of she can our up with me after those times."

"Like I told Isla," Kate speaks up, "I don't even want to think about what goes through your brain, Emmett."

"Saw me naked," Rosalie says. "Emmett couldn't control his mind. I'm surprised he didn't let us being vampires slip before she knew."

"I'm not that bad," Emmett mutters. "She told me yours was the first she heard about exposing us. So... I can't get in trouble for that one, Rose bud."

Eleazar laughs as Isla keeps missing the rabbit she's trying to catch. They're in the north east, they were supposed to be heading south but Isla got distracted by a rabbit she wanted to eat and it keeps getting away from the vampire, and Eleazar is getting a kick out of it.

"Yes!" Isla suddenly cheers as she holds the rabbit up bu its ears. "Finally caught them little booger... Dont tell Emmett about that. I won't hear the end of it on this entire eternity."

Eleazar moves his fingers across his lips, pretending to zip them closed. "My lips are sealed, Miss Cullen. Let's finish heading south, yeah?"

"Yeah," Isla agrees. "This has been awesome. We should come back this way again, and not when you're hiding something."

Eleazar scoffs, even though he's been blocking his thoughts - Isla is smart. "We will."

Isla bounds up to Emmett wirh a smirk. "I upped you on your bear intake in one hunt. I had six!" She beams. "I love going that way."

"Bring me on our next hunt!" Emmett booms as the others stand around talking. "I want some bear."

Isla agrees and she hugs her brother, Emmett smiles as he hugs her back. Isla is kind of sad because everyone is blocking their thoughts. It makes Jasper feel bad but if they opened up their brains, it would ruin the element of surprise. Jasper reaches into his leather jacket and grips onto the ring box, smiling like a happy idiot.
