Chapter 34

Isla is lead to the throne room as soon as the sun rises. She likes Demitri. He doesn't challenge her like Felix tends to like doing. He talks to her, warns her not to speak unless spoken to, he is caring enough for a human feeder. Isla thinks he and Marcus are her favorites.

"Hello, Isla," Caius greets from the table he, Aro, and Marcus sit. "Please, join us."

She sees the group of humans. "I hope you mean at the table for the ledger."

"Have you ever tasted human blood?" Aro asks, he is genuinely curious.

"I almost did at a birthday party when I first turned but no," Isla replies honestly.

"I admire your restraint," Aro admits. "Come, join us at the table. Caius is being... well, Caius. You don't have to feed upon human blood until you join us."

"How do you know I will?" Isla asks as she sits on the other side of the table.

"I just know," Aro replies.

"You saw it in Alice's mind, didn't you?" Isla asks.

Aro grins. "Okay. You caught me."

Marcus slides a large, old book up over and he opens it to the latest page. A couple signatures are there but it is a pretty new page. Caius walks away for a moment but he soon returns to the table. Athenadora is standing with Sulpicia by the thrones, watching carefully as Caius hands the newbie vampire the feather pen he just received for her.

Isla Masen Hale. Isla signs and she even puts a small star after Hale. She hands the pen back to Caius amd she gently pushes the book back to Marcus, who leaves the room to return the book.

"Who exactly turned you?" Aro asks. "Edward didn't have it on his mind."

"A nomad named Victoria," Isla replies. "She's nothing till worry about now, she's as good as gone."

"I have a recommendation," Aro claims as Caius and his wife leave, leaving only Aro and Isla, Sulpicia went to accompany Marcus.

"What's that?" Isla asks.

"If you do decide to join us, your husband may join as well - it might be nice to have an empath around the castle," Aro says. "But my recommendation is that you start a mix of human and animal blood a month or so before joining."

"I will discuss it with Jasper as soon as I go home," Isla claims. 

"You can head home now, unless you would like to stay another night and leave out at first light?" 

Isla nods in agreement. "I can leave at first light... could I steal Felix for a sparring round?"

"Felix, bring her to the training grounds," Aro demands. "She wishes to spar with you. But do not harm her. Show her the ropes of how things work here in Volterra."

Felix nods once and he leads Isla out, he is boasting meant allot toward Isla. He's thrilled to be her choice as sparring opponent. She is such a good competitor, he can tell the bigger Cullen trained her skills and her husband helped with the strategy for the older and bigger vampires.

Felix and Isla walk across a shaded yard and to a fenced in field. Felix removes his fancy jacket and Isla removes her own fully before following Felix over the fence. Jane , her twin brother, Alec, and Demitri all soon come out to watch the sparring round. Both vampires get into position and they charge.
