Chapter 32

Isla heads to the living room off the foyer and finds Jasper reading a newspaper. She tenses; they haven't spoken since Bella's vote. Rosalie and Emmett and Isla are 'graduated' from high school now; Edward, Alice, and Jasper are still gonna go and graduate this year.

"Anything in the paper?" Isla finally asks.

Jasper's head snaps up and he looks at his wife. "Isla..."

Isla sighs, seeing he isn't going to respond. She walks over and grabs the paper. Jasper gazes up at the beautiful vampire as she furrows her eyebrows.

"There are murders and disappearances in Seattle," Isla reads as she sits beside jasper. "They're thinking serial killer, but..."

"You're not one hundred percent sure," Jasper concludes and his wife nods. "Yeah. I know what you mean."

Isla continues reading the article and she sighs. "Jasper..." she looks at him. "Why did you vote yes?"

"My control," Jasper replies. "If she weren't human..."

"It shouldn't be a choice," Isla states. "It never should." She grabs into the Cullen crest around her neck. "I wouldn't have chose it. It's why I said no."

"Do you still love me?" Jasper asks.

Isla snorts. "Do you even have to ask?" Isla kisses Jasper on the lips, and he pulls her close, and she pulls away. "Of course I still love you. I will forever and ever and ever, to eternity and beyond. If I didn't, I'd have not married you nor tell you about Aro's offer."

"Jas, we have school!' Alice chirps as she comes skipping into the room. "Hi, Isla."

Isla ignores Alice and kisses Jasper. "Have fun and don't kill anybody."

Jasper rolls his eyes before getting up, and leaving with Alice.

Isla sits in the kitchen on the opposite end of the bar as Esme. She reads more about the disappearances in Seattle.

"This is just unsettling," Isla murmurs.

"What is?" Esme coos.

Isla walks over and shows Esme. "These disappearances... do you think Alice has seen anything about them, to see who is behind it?"

"If she has, she has said nothing," Esme coos. "And if Edward read her visions, he didn't say anything."

"I'm not talking to him," Isla says. "He missed my wedding to keep 'Bella', who was here, safe."

"I know, dear, and he regrets not being there everyday you don't speak," Esme coos. "He hadn't said a word, but Edward has always been a bit stubborn, so he won't say a word. But I can tell."

"I love Bella," Isla says, "but she's always first priority around her... to everyone but Jasper and maybe Rosalie."

Isla puts them paper down and she goes down the hall, unable to think straight. She feels Thst only jasper and Rosalie would choose her now-a-days. She just hopes Esme doesn't tell to the others but she has a feeling she will.

Emmett enters Isla and Jasper's after talking to Esme; she thinks he'd chose Bella over her. Does she forget he chose to stay behind when James was threatening Bella's life?

"Did you forget about what happened when everyone went to protect Bella agaiznt James?" Emmett asls as he sits beside Isla on her and Jasper's bed - it's only useful for one thing, ans Emmett heard it all when they for back before the vote - he's scarred because Isla is like a sister. "I chose to stay behind with you."

"So I wouldn't be left defenseless," Isla says. "Jasper would have if I hadn't made him go."

"You and I both know he only went because I offered to stay; and we also know you couldn't have stopped me," Emmett muses and he nudges her. "I didn't stay because you were defenseless. I knew James wouldn't come back, at least not until he killed or turned Bella. I stayed because I put you before Bella. Jasper hated leaving you behind."

"But you left..."

"Only because James changed course, I couldn't risk him getting to you and me being alone; I'd have been able to take him, but working with family is always the best," Emmett says. "We has to keep him away form you so we went you to wolf country, he couldn't pick up your scent over there. Thst was Jasper's idea. The others wanted with me at the beginning. Jasper and I chose you over Bella, Rosalie did, too."

"Rosalie always has," Isla replies as she finally leans against Emmett. "We don't need another newborn. Bella shouldn't choose this life."

"I know," Emmett replies truthfully. "I just got excited. You know how I can get." He pauses for a moment. "Did you sign the ledger?"

"What ledger?" Isla asks as she turns away.

"In Volterra," Emmett replies as Carlisle stops oruside the room. "The Volturi have a ledger that all vampires sign."

"I'll call and speak with Aro about the ledger," Isla says. "Why didn't Carlisle or Eleazar mention it when I turned?"

"I'm not sure," Emmett shrugs. "Let's hunt."

Isla nods and the two leave.
