"I've missed this." Abby breathed.
"I've missed it too." Edmund replied.
That night, the two of them laid on a blanket, wrapped in each other's arms, and looking at the stars. Abby had her head lying on Edmund's chest. One arm was resting over his waist, the other on his chest, feeling his steady heartbeat. Edmund had an arm wrapped tightly around Abby's waist. The other one gently stroked her long hair.
They sat in comfortable silence for a long while. Just enjoying each other's company, and the fact the they were both out of the dungeons. Edmund felt grateful that Abby was okay, and most importantly, alive.
The group had traveled about five miles away from the castle throughout the day. They made camp in a safe place, where they were unlikely to be found by Alaska, or her followers. Who could quite possibly be on the hunt for them.
Edmund finally broke the silence when he asked Abby a question. "What did Aslan say to you?" He asked. "If, you're comfortable with sharing, of course."
Abby smiled slightly. "He showed me a few things I needed to see. He taught me a lesson I needed to learn."
Edmund nodded. He knew Abby would share more if she wanted to, or if she needed to. He was more than willing to listen. Though, if she shared no more, he would let the subject go, and respect Abby's personal relationship with Aslan.
Abby took a deep breath. "He took me to Cair." She said slowly.
"Was that hard?" Edmund asked. "You know, after what just happened to you there?"
Abby swallowed hard and slowly nodded. "Yeah." She choked. "But, he showed me something I really needed to see."
"Whats that?" Edmund asked.
Abby hesitated for a full minute before finally answering. "The letters you wrote me." She said slowly.
She felt Edmund's breathing stop for a moment beneath her. But, she was relieved when he began breathing again a few seconds later.
"Oh." He said.
Abby took a deep breath and sat up a little, pulling from Edmund's grip. She laid on her side next to him, propping herself up on her elbow, her head resting in her hand.
She looked Edmund in the eyes, he looked in hers. She couldn't exactly place the look on his face. Which was odd, seeing as his emotions always shone brightly through his eyes. He could never hide his true emotions around his family and closest friends. All they had to do was look into his eyes, and everything he felt swam around like a hurricane.
"What happened to the other letters, Ed?"
Edmund sighed. Placing one, hand behind his head.
"I burned them." He said slowly.
"You burned them?" Abby asked.
"Yup. Then I threw the ashes into the ocean."
Abby thought for a moment, looking at the ground. "When?"
Edmund pursed his lips together for about three seconds before answering. "The night we had our fight."
"What?!" Abby asked, looking absolutely shocked. "That long ago? Well why didn't you tell me, Ed?"
Edmund let out a long sigh. "I did try to tell you. When we left the first day to travel to the how. I kept trying to tell you that day. You never gave me the chance though. I decided to just wait until you were ready to talk again. "
