Edmund slowly stroked Abby's cheek as he cried. He listened to her breathing slow, along with her heart. "Wake up, Abby." He sobbed. "Please wake up."
They had all been sitting there for Aslan knows how long. Watching her body slowly freeze. Watching it turn to ice. Watching her body shut down. Edmund wasn't sure how much more of this he could take.
He gasped when he saw her chest, her heart, turn to ice. His eyes went wide.
"No!" He cried. "Nooo!"
He watched as the ice slowly moved up to her neck. Then, it made its way over her face. Her eyes were permanently frozen shut. Her face was frozen with a look of pain on it forever. Her hair was white, and iced over.
Edmund continued caressing her cheek, flinching at how cold it was. It was hard, not soft like it should be. It felt like nothing more than a piece of ice.
He looked back to her chest. He watched it rise, and fall once. But that was all. It suddenly stopped rising and stopped falling. She wasn't breathing. He quickly placed his fingers to her neck to check for a pulse. Although, he felt nothing but slick, cold, ice beneath his fingers, he knew her heart wasn't beating.
"No!" Edmund whispered. "Her heart needs to beat, if it beats it will keep her alive." He put his hands on her chest, ready to do CPR.
"Wait!" Susan said, tears streaming down her cheeks, as her voice cracked.
Edmund stopped and quickly looked at her.
She sighed, swallowing hard. "Ed." Susan said slowly. "She's frozen. Her body is ice. If you do CPR, it could break her."
Edmund's eyes became as wide as saucers. His breath hitched and he let out a sort of whimper. He slowly removed his hands and looked her over.
"She's dead." He choked.
Lucy swallowed hard and began crying in her sisters shoulder. Susan held her tightly, tears streaming nonstop down her own cheeks.
Sydni and Anna held each other as they cried. Staring at their friends still form, for the second time in only a year. Now, she was merely made of ice, with no hope of that changing. She was forever frozen with a look of pain, and cold on her face.
Peter had tears streaming down his cheeks as well. He wished desperately he could have done more to help her. But he was also worried about Edmund. He fell apart last time he thought Abby died. Then again when she left. How would he handle her actually dying? This pain would be so much worse. Peter didn't want him to go through that, it would be so hard on him.
"She's dead." Edmund sobbed. " I can't believe this. I just... I can't...she's gone." He swallowed hard. "She's gone!" He gasped loudly, as he cried harder." Abby is dead!" He shouted.
He couldn't believe this was happening. Abby is dead. Abby is actually dead. He tried to wrap his head around it, but he just couldn't. How could Aslan let this happen? Why would he take her from him? Edmund did everything to help her. He gave her hope in the dungeons, he showed her love when she needed it the most. Even when she didn't think he really loved her. He stayed behind in an ice cell, so she could make it out alive. But look where that got her. She died. Look where it got Edmund. He was alone. He was a shattered piece of glass that could never be repaired. He was missing his other half. And the pain, was excruciating.
Edmund suddenly began sobbing uncontrollably, his sobs were huge and loud. He gasped as he cried.
"Ed?" Peter asked, slightly worried.
