'I should trust you more often.' Timmy claims as I hand him another shot and I listen to the sound of his laughter as I gulp down what's left in my cup.
'You should.' I retort and he doesn't waste a moment connecting his lips to mine. We're both wet and soggy. Our clothes drape over us in a heavy heap, but I could care less because in this moment all that matters to me is him.
His lips matter, the way he smiles into the kiss matters, the way his hands put down his cup to find my face matters.
We spent the first hour of the party dancing and downing shot after shot together. Joel and the twins joined in at some point but then we ditched them and went outside. This frat house happened to have a large pool and we thought it a good idea to jump inside with our clothes on.
I regretted it the moment my feet got in contact with the icy cold water and the chillness of it overtook me. But seeing the way he smiled, seeing how his head tilted back and his stomach hurt from laughing so hard made me want to do it all over again. Just so I could capture the moment.
Already Timmy was morphing into his old self. He stopped feeling anxious the moment we jumped into that pool and now that we were out of the cold swimming pool, his demeanor hasn't changed a single bit. He danced without a care in the world, he kissed me with so much confidence and he even made a few friends at the party.
I saw no signs of nervousness, or giddiness and there definitely was no hint of fear in his eyes. He carried himself the way he always did, with so much certainty and importance and I couldn't have been more proud.
Timmy pulls away from me, finally giving me a moment to breathe and collect myself and before he can touch his lips to mine again an idea pops into my head and I reach my hand out to stop him. 'Wait! There's something I need to do.' I tell him and I do my best to ignore how adorable he looks as he pouts his lips at me.
I leave him in the middle of a crowd of dancing bodies and I make my way towards the DJ who was practically controlling the atmosphere the entire party. He was playing a lot of EDM and Hip-Hop but for Timmy and mines sake I hoped he would take my request.
I tap his shoulder lightly and thankfully he has a wears a kind smile when he turns to look at me. 'Here to request something?' He says before I have a chance to even open my mouth.
I nod in defeat. 'If that's okay with you?' I caution and I watch him nod in understanding.
'Of course it is. I don't mind. What song?'
I lean in and whisper it into his ear and once I back away I see the pleased look on his face. I'm glad I didn't disappoint. 'Good choice.' He states. 'Is there a reason you want me to play it?'
I nod immediately and the fact that I'm drunk makes me awfully open and honest right now. 'That song changed my life for the better. I was a complete wreck but then I heard it live and I haven't been the same since.'
The DJ grins at me warmly. 'Well.. you have good taste. I'll play it once this song's over.' I send him a thankful smile before I make my way back into the crowd to find Timothée.
I spot him dancing, and I watch his curls flying wildly as he bopped his head to the music and had his eyes closed shut as he appreciated the moment he was living right now. He looked genuinely happy. He is the happiest he's been since I picked him at the airport.
He doesn't spot me watching him for a moment but when he does the song ends and the beat to Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi starts to play loudly through the speakers. The world melts away, everyone that surrounded us in the crowd disappears and all I see is him. All I focus on is the look in his eye once he realizes I'm responsible for this.
