~LEONA~"Mum? What are you doing here?"
What? Mum?
" What's this, Dave? " She stared at both of us and I was forced to take a step back from Dave.
"So Katherine was right all along. You've been sleeping around with your employee while you have a fiancée? Who does that Dave? How could you stoop so low! "
" Stop it, mother. You shouldn't say what you don't know. "
" What don't I know? Is it the fact that you employed a woman just to get under her skirts? I didn't expect this from you."
I gasped and took another step back.
" Mum! Not in front..." He couldn't finish when his mother turned to me like a serpent ready to bite.
" And you. " Her gaze settled on me with contempt. " Just a while ago I thought of you like the best cultured and modest girl I've ever seen not knowing you only pose like that. Deep down you're just one of those opportunists with loose morals! "
" You're making a mistake, mum. What is wrong with you?"
My eyes brimmed with tears. I've never been insulted like this. No one has ever questioned my character. Well, they did when I mysteriously got pregnant. No one believed that I never had sex and everyone branded me as a characterless girl and I had to take it all in. I'd almost forgotten how it feels.
"Nothing is wrong with me, Dave. She has to know her limits. No one sleeps with an engaged man."
" Why would you say these things when you know very well that I don't like Kathie. You pushed me into engaging her knowing that I have the least interest in her. Which mother does this? Have you forgotten all the length you had to go or let me remind you? Tell me, mother, should I refresh your memory?"
" Shut up Dave! How can you talk to me like that in front of her?"
" You should've thought of that first before opening your mouth in the first place. Now, will you please leave? I can't believe you came here because of some stories Kathie made up. You don't even trust your son. Now leave please!"
She eyed me then turned on her heels.
" No. I would be leaving instead. You and your mum need to sort things out... "
She turned to me. " Stop acting like a saint. And leave my so.."
"Mum! And you Leo, you are not going anywhere. "
I snatched my bag from his hand, "You don't talk like that to your mum and expect me to listen to you! " I smiled an apologetic smile at his mum and stormed out, banging the door behind me. I think I saw the woman's eyes soften or just an illusion. And those eyes. They look similar.
I stood at the entrance with my hands on my hips.
Where am I even going? I just came to work not for more than an hour and already leaving.
"Do you think you can ruin my well thought out plan so easily?"
I jumped at the voice.
" You scared me," I said pantingly with my palm on my chest.
"Now let's go."
"What about your mum?" I looked back.
"She'll be fine."
"Where are you taking us by the way?
"You'll know soon enough." He took my hand but I snatched it from him. "I can walk on my own."
