Lisa
Lisa frowned in her sleep. Her head aches, her body ached.
Her mouth moved to yell for Jennie but no sound came out.
She was trapped in another nightmare
There was a girl who looked like Jennie. She wore a thick coat, and had big brown eyes, but they were full of happiness. Her Jennie's eyes seemed dull.
Other than age and that look, they looked exactly the same.
She smiled at Lisa.
"My name is Jennie Ruby Jane! Do you wanna be friends?"
Lisa frowned. "Friends? What's friends?
She took her hand. "It's when you care about someone, and love them. And you try to make them laugh, and share your snacks and toys!"
"What snacks and toys?" Lisa asked.
She smiled wider. "I'll show you! Since we're friends now, you can have some of my snacks. And I got this toy from home. You can have it!"
Jennie put a little plastic car in Lisa's hand. She looked at it.
"I'm too big to fit in this," She said sadly.
She laughed. "Of course you are silly! You're not supposed to fit inside. You just pretend and it'll be okay."
"Pretend what?" She asked.
She shrugged. "Whatever you want. You can pretend it's on a high speed chase. You can pretend it's in the ocean. You can pretend it's full of clowns if you want."
"Anything I want?" Lisa repeated slowly.
Jennie nodded. "Anything you want!"
Someone called Jennie's name, and she smiled. "I have to go now. Can you come out to play tomorrow?"
She couldn't. But she would find a way. She wanted to learn all about these things. How to pretend. What a snack was.
"Okay! I'll come out when it's night time."
"Night time? My mommy doesn't let me go out at night."
Lisa frowned sadly. She took Lisa's hand again. "But I'll come out too! But we have to stay right here, in case a pedo comes, so we can both run home."
"A... a pedo?"
"Yeah! Someone who touches your no-no squares."
Lisa was confused. "What's a no-no square?"
"I'll tell you tomorrow!"
Perhaps, if Jennie told her then, she would've known what happened was wrong.
