Ruby Jane stares at the woman in front of her. She sneered in disgust. She was so calm. So resigned to her fate. It didn't matter.

Then what was the point?

"Tell me..." She whispered. "What you believe."

Lisa frowned. "What I believe? I think that's changed. But I don't think it matters now."

"Tell me. Now."

She swallowed. "I believe... I used to believe a few things. Power yields money. Money yields death. That no matter what a man looks like, or have been through, or what his personality is, as long as he has power over women, will find him attractive. I believed peace was weakness."

Jennie narrowed her eyes. How dare Lisa sit there, peaceful. Why couldn't she be at peace? After all she'd done...

"And now? What do you believe now."

Her lips titled down again. "I'm not sure. But again, I don't think it matters. You have many options. You can burn me. You can decapitate me, though I advise before doing any of that, shoot me in the head. I'll be out for a little."

"So you can escape pain?"

"So that I don't hurt you. It's not in human nature to allow yourself to die. My mind is at peace with it, but I can assure you my body will not be."

Jennie bit her lip fiercely. A trickle of blood pricked on the surface on the torn skin.

Lisa frowned. "Why are you bleeding?"

"Why can you smell that?"

She shrugged.

"Why did you pick me? To torture?"

"Because you are Jennie," She whispered.

"I'm not Jennie." She spate. "And if she loved you, I doubt she existed. Just some excuse your twisted mind thought up to hurt people-"

She smiled. "I wasn't who I was now when you loved me. We were children. Innocent children. Ask your parents."

"They're alive?"

She smirked. "I promised you didn't I?"

She scoffed. "So?"

"So have I broken a promise to you? Good or bad? I promised to hurt you. I promised to break you. I promised to-"

"Shut up!" She screamed.

She nodded. "Very well. I know it's upsetting."

Jennie swallowed roughly. "I want to know something."

She nodded, eyes still closed.

"Anything Jennie."

She sneered at the name. "Why did you take my son?"

"To control you. To keep you subdued. When you take a hostage, it's best to have leverage. The best leverage against a woman is her child."

"And you... you-"

"For the disbelief in your tone I believe you're wondering why I would do such an inhumane thing. But the truth is, I'm not different from anyone else. We do what we have to do to get what we want. I realize now that my methods were less than human but... I suppose I always knew that."
