Lisa blinked.

"Where am I?" She looked around.

"Hello? This doesn't look like hell! I think some may have made a mistake as to my final destination."

"No one made a mistake," A voice said.

She frowned. "God?"

"Not as such. Besides, you didn't even believe in god."

Lisa sighed. "I think it was more like God didn't believe in me."

"Well, you were kind of a douche," The voice quipped.

Lisa rolled her eyes. "I would like to die now please."

"Wish granted," The voice chimed.

"So then I am dead. Is this hell? Are you the Devil? You surely are irritating enough."

"No. No. None of that. And yes, you are very dead. Your body was burned and crushed."

Her heart stuttered. "And Jennie? She left me there? She's alright?"

A man appeared before her. He had dark hair and dark eyes, but some reason, Lisa couldn't pinpoint any other feature of his.

"And still you agonize over her, she left you to die."

"I deserved that. I deserved death. Now, give me my punishment."

The man eyed her. "I have watched you, Lisa. I have watched you pine after this woman, and try your best to become hers. And yet, here you are, in the face of death, and you care for nothing but her. Why?"

"She is my reason for living," Lisa murmured. "I only wish I had treated her with kindness."

"You... human... you were so flawed. Your brain had many imbalances. You could not understand emotion properly, and could not interpret meaning behind words."

Lisa looked down. "I didn't know that. You're saying I had a mental illness?"

"Is that what they call now?" The man asked with a small smile. "Yes, it is an apt description. The things that make you a properly fictional human were not adjusted correctly, and hence you became something that caused others pain."

Lisa clenched her fist. "I didn't feel ill"

"The worse illnesses have no symptoms." The man said drily.

Lisa looked down. "That's not an excuse-"

"I never said it was, Lisa. I simply said, you had many imbalances. The things you meant to say and do were not the things you did and said. Was that frustrating? I watched you struggle, wondering why she would not respond to what you thought was good behavior."

"What does it matter? It's over now. I wish to go to hell. I don't want to speak of the past. I want to face the punishment for my crimes against her."

"You did in agony. Is that not enough?"

Lisa frowned. "No. I may have died in agony, but it was short. She lived in agony. By my hands."

The man clapped. "And so here lies my dilemma. You are correct; you deserve punishment. But you also seem to have developed a very strong conscience and your love for her, however incorrectly shown is true. So what to do with you?"

"Hell?"

"There is no hell," The man said sternly. "But here's what I've decided."

There was a snap. The darkness illuminated and she saw her son.

She gasped. "M-my son," She reached out to touch the sleeping boy's face.

"Ah! Don't touch or he goes away."

Lisa withdrew her hand. She watched Jennie come into the boys room, and hold him.

Jennie...

"This boy will have some of those imbalances. He will also fixate on a young woman when he is very small."

Lisa clenched her fist. "No... he cannot make those mistakes. She'll hate him."

"You can't help him. In his everyday life, you will be powerless to help this boy or hinder him from making mistakes."

"This will be your hell. This will be your punishment."

Lisa felt her heart pain her.

"But... it is possible in critical moments to guide him. This is your compensation for the pain your imperfections have put you through."

Lisa sighed. "Who are you?"

"I'm just your neighborhood reaper that's all."

Lisa doubted that. She watched the boy sleep, with a smile. She would do everything she could do to help that boy. She would.

"My son.. Jennie. I will try me best."
