So Familiar, So Broken

They spent the afternoon and some of the night talking. L talked about his condition, and what happened while he was hidden away from everyone else, while Daisy talked about Mario, and the times they had together, that she knew of, of course. He couldn't stop smiling, his brother seemed like such a great person. At the same time, however, he felt a pinch of sorrow. All the things that he, or more correctly, the three of them, had done were awful.

But, perhaps, it would be alright regardless of this. The way he declined as a result of his actions really was punishment enough. Now came time to improve.

L yawned, it was becoming difficult for him to remain awake. Daisy was going to leave his room so he can sleep, but she stopped when he said, "It'd be nice to see him again..."
Daisy smiled a bit, "Well, we can go look for him tomorrow if you want."

L's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Really?!"
Daisy giggled a bit, "Yeah! We'll have to clean you up some, but we absolutely can!"
A quick, excited exchange went between them, and he went to sleep after Daisy left.

L looked out upon a sea of darkness, his limbs bound in chains. He saw distorted, jarringly bright colours in the shapes of what appeared to be faces. A few Toads, and some people. When it hit him, when he realized what he was seeing, he began breathing heavily. Echos of screams rippled through his mind, he tasted blood in his mouth, and his body tensed. The faces continually got closer...

And L awoke in a cold sweat.
He wiped his face on his sleeve and walked into the living room. Daisy looked up at him, petting Polterpup. "You're up early."
"I am?"
"Yeah, it's 6:27"
"Oh... I am."

Daisy had him head to the bathroom, and came in behind him, grabbing a pair of nail clippers. She took hold of his hands and trimmed his claws down, but when she finished, he noticed that they were still a little pointed.
She left and returned with a plain white shirt, a black vest, fingerless  gloves and jeans, a pair of shoes, and a bright green bowtie. She asked him to change into that. She didn't say it, but he knew it was because meeting someone, especially in circumstances like this, wouldn't go well if you're wearing clothing covered in somebody else's blood.
After he did, Daisy returned and put his hair up into a ponytail.

"There! You're ready to go!"

Luigi looked into the mirror beaming. This was the happiest he's ever been. He looked like someone else all over again. His sharp teeth, cut into points like that of a particularly cartoonish shark, unnerved him, but there was nothing that could be done about that.  There wasn't any need to bother with worrying about that, however. Something more important was coming.

They started by heading directly to Mario's house, and, lo and behold, he was sitting inside. He leaned on the couch, but L couldn't help but notice how unkempt he looked, the sad look in his eyes, and the bags beneath them.
Daisy frowned. She saw exactly what he did.
"... What happened?"
Daisy sighed,
"Well, we know why you went into hiding, but for a while, there were rumours stating that you were dead... He didn't believe it for a really long time... maybe he lost hope..."
The longer Daisy talked about it, the sadder she sounded. He wiped away a tear. His brother didn't deserve that... but since he's here, he'll try to make things better.
They moved to the front door, and Daisy went inside. He couldn't hear what they were talking about. He probably was shocked to see the princess's ghost, while she said something about 'someone' wanting to talk to him. All the while, he fidgeted with his clothing, tapping his feet. He was excited.
Then the door opened.
