Facing A Heartbreaking Truth

Mario entered the room, blinking in surprise.
"Whoa, I knew you had a candle burning in here but the smell! Way stronger in here!"

"I suppose so..."
Beelzebub said, shrugging. Mario looked at him, trying to figure out why his brother was speaking the way he was. But suddenly, clarity hit him. Beelzebub could see it in his eyes. It was like in that instance, he knew the exact answer to his question.
"You're... one of those other personalities Luigi was talking about... aren't you?"
He nodded. "Of course. You know full well he does not talk like this."
"... well, yeah, that's fair."

They were quiet for a short while, neither one knew what to say. It was incredibly clear to Beelzebub that neither of them thought they would get into a situation like this. It felt so... awkward. Mario decided to speak up, trying to start up a conversation.
"So... what brought you out here...?"
Mario sounded a little apprehensive. Fair enough.

"I suppose it was this candle, here..."
"Really?"
"Yes, it was rather... peculiar, really. Once it began getting strong, we were immobile. We still had our usual share of sights and sounds, but it felt like there was peace, finally. I, for one, don't understand it, not at all, however, it still led to this," Beelzebub paused, chuckling. Mario shuddered hearing it. "Funny enough, I didn't actually notice I was in control. Usually when Wendigo or myself take over, your brother goes into a panic, but he was silent. Maybe that's why..."

"Huh..." Mario sighed, quietly.
"You're worried about him. It's incredibly obvious."
"Of course I'm worried! This is entirely new to me!"
Beelzebub sighs, closing his eyes for a brief moment. "And that, I understand completely. From what we're gathering, we weren't like this until December, just about, as a result of past problems collapsing in on us, causing fractures that, in spite of any and all efforts, will never heal."
He looked

into Mario's eyes. The demon could see his heart fall apart. Perhaps because he just heard an alternate mind to his brother tell him that there was no real cure to what happened. He frowned slightly. "Don't be too upset now, conditions like this are not the sort that can be fixed, you know."
Mario began to tear up, "I know... it's just... the fact that there isn't much I can do..." he sobbed, and Beelzebub approached him, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Now, now, its alright. None of us expect you to do everything. Hell, we barely know what there is to do. However, I know one thing for sure. You're brother does not want you to be too awfully heartbroken over him. No matter how much you care for someone, and no matter what you try, there's no putting an end to some things."

Mario leaned into the demon, beginning to softly cry. Beelzebub tried calming his cries, but it didn't seem to do all that much. Over time, though, it began to feel like he was cheering up, slowly but surely.
Eventually, he looked up and into Beelzebub's eye and said, smiling a little,
"To make things clear, don't make it sound like Luigi's the only one of you three that's my bro... you all are."
