Beelzebub blinked awake. He and his brother parted so they could get to sleep at around 11:00 PM. He turned to check the time, and...

1:45 AM. Of course it was.
He sighed, sitting up and frowning. He glanced around the room, the shadows making him feel a bit small. He fidgeted some, narrowing his eye. Then he heard it.
-"THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT."-
Suddenly frantic, Beelzebub looked around the room, wondering who said that.

-"NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD IT BEEN FOR YOU."-
The demon froze. He broke into a cold sweat and stumbled, trying not to move much for fear that the dark will snatch him away. The voice was right, wasn't it?
He looked down, taking a moment to think about it. For so long, he was intentionally driving L to madness... why was he ever doing this? He took a deep breath, but he had trouble inhaling.
-"YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN."-
That hurt. L DID forgive him... right? No! He never said anything about that!

But he did say he cared about him, and Wendigo, too. Even after everything... was that even the same? Beelzebub didn't notice, but he was crying. He didn't realize this mattered to him so much. But it did, regardless. Even at his worst, the demon cared deeply for L, so of course knowing L felt the same meant something to him! But now, at full force, he's being reminded that he's still so terrible.

-"TRY ALL YOU WANT, YOU WILL NEVER ESCAPE THE AGONY YOU PUT HIM THROUGH."-

He collapsed, his chest feeling tight. Everything hurt. Was this how L was feeling this entire time? How could he be so blind? How DARE he be so blind! But he was... was that his fault, however?
He was breathing heavily, trying desperately not to choke. A tear hit his hand, and he fought a sob.
"I'm so sorry..." he murmured, knowing that it was not enough. After everything? Of course it wasn't. He looked around, strange beings not there before lurking in the shadows. He huddled into himself, whimpering.
He realised something, in the midst of the terror. Even though he was far from good, he was still by L's side the whole time. Staying there should help make things better, right? He hoped so.

He tried to stand, but he felt unbearably weak all of a sudden. He grew tired again, but he was too scared to sleep. He had to, however. Maybe things will improve when he awakens.
And as he closed his eye, he heard L's voice within his subconscious,
-"It's okay..."-
