Luigi finally went home. He frowned, looking at the floor. He laid on the couch, unable to stop thinking about what he's done. It didn't help, knowing that he's almost guaranteed he'll keep this up. He looked up, adjusting the way he was laying and grabbing the TV remote. He only meant to turn it on for background noise, but suddenly his attention was fixed on the screen.
"It has recently come to our attention that an unknown monster has been found killing and eating Mushroom Kingdom residents. We do not know what it is, where it came from, or why it is targeting innocent people. We ask of you to keep a watch out for this thing, whatever it is. There's no telling when it will strike again, and following the finding of remains found to belong to Rosalina, this killer beast may be the cause of other missing person cases."
When the missing person cases were mentioned, images of people began to appear. One being the rose-bearing toad he accidentally took the life of, and another being him. He didn't recognize himself at first. He was so used to seeing himself as a long-haired, sharp-toothed freak that seeing what he used to look like felt...
Wrong.
It winced at the sight of the screen, turning it off.
-"I did say nobody would recognize you..."-
Luigi sighs slowly, looking down.
"I know..."
-"Come on, now, what's getting you down, darling?"-
"Guess it's just..."
He hesitated, knowing that if he could see that monster his own brain conjured up, the one that appeared to be a 'physical' representation of the voice in his head, it would be leaning forward attentively, with that awful smile.
"It's just weird seeing what I looked like before all this..."
-"In comparison to the ghastly form you hold now? I understand fully. Just remember that you've already gone too far to change back. There's no way down this violent path except forwards. You may as well keep going, my dearest."-
"But every time I do something like that, I end up feeling all guilty... it sure feels like I'm backtracking..."
The voice laughed, the sound burning his mind like acid.
-"So what I hear is you don't want to deal with your own humanity, dear? Well, now, you can always part ways with it. It may be impossible to get rid of every shred, but you can always get close. Then your issue will dissolve."-
The idea chilled Luigi to the bone, but he didn't think there was another way.
