Luigi opened the door, looking out at the night sky. He stayed still, temporarily mesmerized by the stars, then he shut the door behind him, locking it.
He crawled about, staying under any cover he could find, just to be safe. He froze multiple times, when he heard rustling, or whispers. Even when he made a noise himself, he stopped, as if he were ensuring nobody heard. Everything around him seemed so wrong, and like he was being watched at every turn. His heart pounded, and he was terrified, watching shadowy creatures glide around. He didn't know what was real, or what his mind was making him see and hear. He could barely handle the terror of it, but he continued.
Eventually, Luigi found a cliff, and looking over, he could look out over a sea of darkness. No matter what was seen on the surface, if one were to delve beneath it, monsters would be found. Luigi felt as if that was a little apt. He stood up, but remained slouched over. As he looked at the glistening waters, he began feeling more and more aware of himself.
He found it hard to believe he was once a more innocent soul, one who wouldn't dare hurt anybody. Now, he was a one-eyed freak, constantly hungry, but rarely ate, for he knew it could lead to someone's demise. Once, he was mentally stable, even in spite of what happened to him in the past. Now, he can barely differentiate real and fake, and puts his trust in a demonic beast who encourages him to dismember, kill, and consume the people he finds. Now, he was becoming more and more at peace with how much of a horrible, horrible person he has become. Could he dare call himself a person anymore? Whispers filled his head, and he shakily lowered down, putting his hands on the sides of his head, wincing and clenching his jaw. Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the murmurs that called him an animal:
"Hey, you there! Are you alright?"
Luigi flinched, looking up, and turning around. He saw a young woman, with wide, blue eyes, a friendly, approachable appearance, and a lovely orange dress. His heart sank. It's Daisy.
She blinked in surprise. "No way! Is... Is that you?! Hey! Luigi! I can't believe it!! You're alive!"
He didn't quite notice, but he was shaking. He blinked in disbelief. This can't be. He looked down, attempting to process what she said. For a few moments, Luigi couldn't remember his own name.
Daisy ran over to him, pulling him into a hug, Luigi being to stunned to reciprocate. She gave a smile and said quite excitedly, "Wow! It really is you! Hopefully you're doing alright, though obviously you're doing better than everyone's saying you are!" She joked, but he still stared back in fear. "Hey... you okay?" She asked, suddenly so much calmer.
Luigi mumbled something, only to be asked to speak up. He forced back a tear but to no avail. "What are you... you doing here? It's not safe..."
