"My father told me when I was just a child!
These are the nights that never die!
My father told me!"
Caraoke is what Peter calls it, it's also why we don't let him drive. All of us laughing, Tana takes out the CD, putting it back in the case. It took about an hour to get there from the stadium to camp, and we've been singing to songs for about forty minutes.
Peter and Hayden were all over each other in the back seat, pushing each other, lying around as dramatic as we sang.
Tana sat passenger so she could keep an eye on them, so that left me to drive.
"Best time ever!" shouts Peter. Tana nods, leaning back, hands behind her head "And with the competition over it's all relaxing and having fun." she speaks the truth. I take a claiming breath as I turn off the freeway onto a lone road.
Looking at the clock, I see it was almost one in the morning, "We told camp we were on our way back, right?" I ask, Hayden holds a hand up, "I took care of it, like everything else." he states. Tana turns back, "Excuses me? I'm the one who has to babysit your sorry asses all the time."
The two start going at each other, so that was my cue to tune them out. The forest around was pretty thick I begin to notice or notice what I can in the beam of the headlights.
I swear I thought something zoomed out of the sight of the vision and into the darkness. I roll down the window and stick my head out, looking behind us to see just forest, okay this was freaky.
As I turn to face the road front, I swear in the trees I saw it again, a shadow darting into the darkness. I'm losing my mind "YOU ASSHOLE!!!" shouts Tana, I look over to her to see Peter had poured water on her and she was about to throw her bottle at him.
Sighing, I look back to the road, just focus on the road.
As I do, I notice the trees not passing as fast as they would.
Looking down, I press on the gas peddle a couple of times, the engine revs, but the car speed seems to decrease even more.
"Don't make me climb back there!" shouts Tana.
"Guys?" I start.
"I dare you!" shouts Hayden.
"GUYS!" I shout; they all look to me, all of them covered in water or soda "WHAT!?!!"
I throw my hands up and grip the wheel, pointing to the fuel gauge, "We're out of gas."
"What..."
"No! No, no, no." I repeat as the car comes to a stop, thankfully the battery wasn't dead, so the headlights remained on. I kick open the door, and we exit the car beginning to check it over. "How are we out of gas? We filled up at the seven elven before we left," says Hayden.
Peter reaches into the car, grabbing the backpack and pulls out our phones. "Use them as flashlights," he says, turning on his. Tana points her flashlight behind the car, "I found something." she states.
I walk over and shine my flashlight where hers was, a thin trail of liquid was left, moving my light along the path stops underneath the car. Tana turns off her light sitting down against the car. "Here, hold my feet," she commands.
I kneel down, putting my knees on her feet, and she leans down underneath the car turning her flash back on "Oh yeah, gas tanks been punctured, there are two small holes it's been leaking out us."
Two small holes?
No, we probably ran over a stick, don't get ahead of yourself; it's a stick we ran over. Taking Tana's legs, I pull her out, Hayden and Peter help us up "Well, guess we have to walk back to camp." suggests Peter.
