We speed down the roads in a yellow car with darkly tinted windows. Alice is behind the wheel, pulling off the chic, white, hooded coat she used for protection against the sun. She's driving past the speed and like a maniac.
"I'm guessing you didn't rent this," I state still frazzled from flying.
"Hope you're not opposed to grand theft auto," she answers. Bella nods "Not today." she answer, it felt like time was against us, and with each minute passing, I felt sicker to my stomach than ever.
"The Volturi denied them, they're going to make a scene to make sure they get killed," she says.
"How much time do we have." I ask.
"They're waiting till noon, when the sun's at its highest..." she states. I look at the dashboard and grip my seatbelt "It's almost noon now."
"There's Volterra." Alice says punching it to the max. A medieval fortified village atop a distant hill. Volterra. The narrow, centuries-old streets are crowded with festival revellers who all wear red. They gaily head toward the town square carrying red pendants, balloons, scarves.
Our car weaves through them, hurrying forward. Bella looks out the window "Why are they all wearing red?" she ask. Alice concentrate on driving "San Marcos Day festival. Celebrating the eexputltion of vampires from the city. The perfect setting. The Volturi won't let them get far enough to reveal themselves."
I bite my lip "Alice we have five minutes-" I lurch forward as Alice screeches to a halt at a roadblock. Italian police wave her back. Bella jumps out taking me with her "Alice!"
"If they see me they'll rush into it. Edward's gonna be under the clock tower and Jasper's gonna come out of the building across. Go!"
Bella pulls on my sleeve and the two of us run off "Where do we go? How do we get to the square?" Bella ask stoping I pull her along "Follow the crowd!" I shout as we race down the cobble-stoned alleys, stumbling on the uneven stones. Festival revellers head in the same direction, we maneuver around them.
A sea of scarlet flags, dresses and jackets. As we reach the square were a giant flock people gather and celebrate. I point to the clock tower and Bella nods, just the doors open and we could see Edward.
My eyes turn around to see the doors of the opposite building begin to open.
GONG!!!
No...the clock tower!
I push my way through the crowd trying my best to get to the other side as three more gongs passed. It all felt in slow motion, my strength came back as if I wasn't even sick or something like that.
I see his face, those eyes void of life, he steps out and unbuttons his shirt.
I rush forward feeling speed I've never known.
He stares down and steps into the light as I burst out of the crowd.
He never let me hug him or hold hangs, he was always so afraid he would hurt me. I don't think he realized that when he said those words that he may have hurt me, but he could never push me away.
I dash up the steps and fling my arms around him "Jasper I could never hate you!" I shout pushing him back into the building. I hold onto my arms to make sure he wouldn't push me off. I feel his chest heave up and down under me and I feel his arms wrap around me.
"Evangeline?"
I nod burying my head in his chest "Jasper." I cry. We pull back and look at each other, Jasper's face drops when he sees mine "What?" I ask. Jasper tentivly raises a hand and strokes under my eye with his thumb "What happen?"
