The man motioned us over to a metal table that was full of medical supplies. I watched as he grabbed a bottle of rubbing alcohol before turning back to look at us.
"They're coming back, so we don't have much time to talk." The man said, pouring some of it on some gauze.
"Uh, what is that?" Scott asked him, looking at the bottle warily.
"Rubbing alcohol." He answered. "You don't want it to get infected, do you?" He then began to tend to Scott's wound. "You'll heal the same. Just not as quickly, because of Derek."
"How do you know this stuff? Who are you? Why do we have to rush?" I asked the man, and that's when he finally looked at me. I saw something flash in his eyes, but it was quick to leave as soon as it came. He looked down and a small smile appeared on his face.
"My name is Deaton, I'm Scott's boss. And it's a long story." He said. "And it's nice to officially meet you. It always is when meeting the silver-eyed elemental." I was taken back by what he said and so was Scott.
"H-How?" I stammered.
"Your necklace was a dead giveaway. I've heard of the stories about it. Now, I am not like you, but that pendant is well known more than you know, but it is only known by high rank elementals in clans or by people they trust. I was one of the lucky few." He said, wrapping up Scott's wound before leading me to the sink.
"I know about both your kinds. I help them." He turned on the water and gently put my hand under it, watching as the water trailed up my arm and washed away my wound like it was never even there before going towards the bruises on my neck.
"Remarkable. An elementals power always is." He said in fascination. "What's your name?"
"Casey." I said. I turn and look at the man who had claw marks in his chest. "What happened?"
"Well this is... this is something different." He said when he glanced at the dead man laying on the metal table.
"Do you know what did it?" Scott asked him, tearing his eyes away from the mauled man.
"No. But the Argent's will."
I perked up at the sound of my last name and I look at Deaton.
"My dad knows about this?" I said, surprised he didn't tell me about it. I look at the body closer and I stepped back when I realized who this was.
It was Bennett.
"Casey, this is the crucial part. There is some kind of record, or book, it'll have descriptions, histories, notations of all the things that your family has discovered." He said to me, and I started to think.
"Wha- All the things?" Scott said, completely in shock. "How many different things are there?"
Deaton was about to answer him when we suddenly heard the front door open. He pushed us towards the back door.
"Casey,"
"I know it." I said, and he nodded. Scott closed the door behind us a bit and we hid against the wall, trying to listen in.
"I'm starting to think I need to buy a more prominent closed sign." I heard Deaton say, and I tried not to chuckle at his snarky remark.
"Hello, Alan." I heard my grandfather say. "It's been a while. The last I heard, you had retired."
Hold up, they know each other?
"Last I heard, you followed a code of conduct." Deaton said to him, and I completely agree.
"If you hadn't noticed, this body is one of ours." I suddenly heard my dad say.
"I did." He said. "I also noticed the gunpowder residue on his fingertips. So don't be assumed I'll be swayed by your philosophy just 'cause I'll answer a few questions."
